Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Well considering the peeps in this thread seem to both credit Trump for the vaccine development, and also wouldn't take the vaccine...

With that level of confidence, I'd not take that bet.

Things might change quick, though if the virus takes a nasty turn, as some project.
As @kiddiedoc and others have said, we flattened the curve right into the jaws of flu season.

I expected to find all the answers.. i want my money back
Ok. I just PM’d it to you. Wait for it.

Seriously I watched a two hour summit on it today. No not two hours of Trump, two hours of the people executing it. That General whatshisface was on it too and sounded like he’s got his act together

Also flattered it into availabe vaccines, even if we have to wait longer.
Like it or not having multiple vaccine options certified in the span of 9 months is a major accomplishment and a major feather in the whole team’s hat. I think I read it was March when they had it sequenced and ready to start working on the vaccine.

It is, and arguably as fast or faster than another admin could have done.

Not that I'd try to take than from Donnie. I'd even say that is his crowning achievement.

I hereby dub him "Covid King"

edit: also did the PM ever work?

He did nothing but set the tone and got out of the way. But it happened on his watch.

Trump got the vaccine in record time as much as Obama got Bin Laden. That is... if you believe we got Bin Laden 😎

Sure sure.. I'm still betting on him having a cut of Moderna.

Buying a.vaccine and having the vaccine is not the same thing.

Trump put us in the back of the line, by 100 million an now is trying to cover his butt.

Buying a vaccine is what this is all about. He's being criticized for not buying another 100 million

The Pfizer vaccine is the worst, I use that term very loosely, of them all. The ability to transport and hold are extremely difficult. It was a good call by the Admin. If it was the only one then sure. But we are going to have access to several.

Why is this a paradox to you?

The important target for a vaccine would be the vulnerable, no? Also, we would worry less about long-term unexpected side effects in this demographic, agreed?

I had a friend/colleague praising the response by New Zealand this evening, and I have seen it referenced before in this thread. I did a little research --

If we could break the US into Kentucky-sized population groups, give each a piece of land the size of Colorado, and float each one into the ocean 1,300 miles from the nearest civilization, I really think we could slow this mess down.

Oh... so the vaccine just lessens the symptoms. How interesting. So a vaccine that lessens the symptoms for a virus that 80% of people who get it have no symptoms anyway. Makes sense
Vaccines don't prevent you from getting anything. They enable your body to fight it off. Please correct me if I am wrong @kiddiedoc

The Kentucky thing reminds me, we have a new Mexican guy at work. We were talking about the virus the other day, my wife recently had it, and he asked why I wasn't afraid abd wearing a mask. I told him, "I'm from Ky man, our blood is so inbred that it'll kill corona faster than lysol". I kept a straiggt face and walked away, he asked like 3 people that day if I was serious😂

Strictly as it pertained to the proposed wager, I wouldn't bet on x amount of the population to consume the available doses, initially. Especially until they see that Grams or Nurse Betty doesn't keel over.

Again, I'd say a lot depends on whether or not winter brings a Covid nightmare before/after Christmas, then maybe everyone will be more receptive.

That's just stupid. The short term side effects of these are pretty well vetted. It's those concerned with side effects a decade or two from now that won't take it. You know "Hey Mr. VFH you have colon cancer. Did you take the COVID vaccine 10-20 years ago?•

I'm not even sure why he was involved in the decision, honestly.

But he's being criticized for not diversifying. You can buy all the future so and so you want, but delivery is another matter.

I'm not arguing that it's stupid or not. This is just my guess, drawing from how people tend to want someone else to take the first bite of something different.
