Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I know several parents who are doing this to their children to “keep them safe”.

I know one in particular who occasionally takes them on long rides in their minivan complete with a bagged lunch as an adventurous getaway from the house.
Little does she realize that their chance of perishing in a car accident is much higher than of suffering a poor outcome from CV infection.

Why do you think we are almost a year into the pandemic and no one made more n95 mask so that people could simply wear a mask and not be concerned about what others were doing? Do you not find that a little odd?
I've said this for months. It's not that difficult to make N95 masks, and we could have plenty for every American that wants them, if we actually cared.

Good luck trying to explain this to someone who is terrified of CV-19.

He probably thinks I’m a horrible dad. We discuss what we did over the weekend and I’m always talking about going to friends’ houses, having people over to my house, and the family traveling here or there.

I told him a few cold beers can knock down the COVID so I’m not worried.

What I find odd is people dumb enough to follow a carnival-barker who refused to admit the pandemic was as deadly as it has been.

There is no reason to pivot back to Trump if you are ignorant of the subject.

I just find it odd that you care what others are doing to protect you when you don't care enough to protect yourself.

Again...you present a hypothetical and ask me if I find it odd that it didn't happen. I answered that what I find odd is the cult of people that listen to the carnival barker that acted as if this pandemic was no big deal. In the meantime, it has almost claimed more American lives than the second world war.

How is it a hypothetical? Can you not go out right now and buy an N95 respirator?

I didn't ask about Trump and his claims yet you make that your answer. Why are you comparing the virus to the second world war? The virus is doing exactly what a virus does. Why not compare it to other viruses? Does it lose a little of the omg factor?

I understand the numbers analogy. It’s a bad virus and is going to continue to be the cause of death in thousands more Americans.

However, maybe we should apply the “years lost” model to the WWII deaths and then compare again?

I stated you should stop whining and start wearing your freaking mask. You jump to a hypothetical about an N95 mask. Wear your cloth mask and quit playing your cult word-games.

Interesting read, thanks for posting.

Now, as to the comparison, sure...if we want to talk about numbers of years lost, obviously WWII wins due to the overwhelming number of soldiers being young. However, what I'm referring to is straight deaths, regardless of years.

Does it matter to a family that has lost a grandparent that the number of years they may have had left weren't more than a neighbor that lost a son/daughter?? I think not.

Regardless, the dumb ass in charge of the country downplayed the significance and deadliness of the virus to the general public. He paid for it by getting his ass handed to him in November.

Yea, the attitude of the POTUS towards the virus really affected outcomes. Jeez.

Watching basketball last night, thinking about how many players and coaches have been diagnosed as of late, talking to parents of kids who have tested positive lately in my office, and looking at the curves in various states and countries, I'm really suspicious that the (mis)use of cloth masks actually increases the spread of respiratory flora. It SURE AS HELL isn't stopping anything.

Actually, it is quite different. Have you ever known anyone to lose a child?
Good grief. You too, doc?

Yes. Losing a child is something no parent should ever go through. You and I both know this.

However, my point is this freaking virus took people from families. Trying to say one loss is less significant is stupid.

You can take that up with our instructors in medical ethics, psychology, and the "Death, Dying, and Bereavement" class.

Google "Holmes-Rahe Stress Inventory." Death of a spouse or child is given a factor of 100, the highest score possible.

I'm sure you know all that though, since I'm the stupid one.
