Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Consider yourself lucky, and be grateful. My 44-year-old otherwise healthy sister is in a hospital in Tennessee tonight. She was diagnosed with COVID last Friday. Today, she has pneumonia in both lungs. Her husband and two teenagers are also sick but not as sick as she is. We’re all terrified for her. Be grateful your symptoms are minor. Not everyone else is as fortunate.
I’m sorry for your sister and hope she makes a full recovery soon.

Recently the former Mayor of Franklin, TN passed away. The headline was "Former Franklin Mayor dies of COVID, and a brain tumor." Funny that "COVID" was in all caps when the man has been battling brain cancer for 10 years.

Yeah, the whole point is to continue a panicked society, inflate deaths. Its really sad.

How do testing centers prevent the spread of covid?

I mean you have a physical location where many people with covid visit everyday. Then you have a lot of people that think they have covid, but actually dont, visit these same places.

So 100 people flow thru, 8 positive 92 negative. But now, does one or more of the 92 get it, having been around this place?

Think about what happens at Wally World.

All the people that are herded through Walmart everyday. Evidently their buildings are immune.

I'm just weighing my options.

Slight chance I have this, not sure. Planned on seeing some elderly relatives next weekend. Not sure I want to go get the test because I think, what if I dont actually have it but then go put myself in a location rampant with people having it.

Gotcha...

Just wear a mask. Makes you invincible.

they came out to my car. I never had to step foot into the clinic.

That is a good step. Still concerns me though. Which is kind of funny since I have gone 10 months working and doing anything I want, with no concern about getting this. I guess the idea of purposely putting myself in contact with people that I know have been around infected people (that day) is what bothers me.

If I had it or have it, I seem to be in very good shape in terms of getting past it.

CVS has drive thru self test kits

Really? What is the turnaround time on those?
You have to schedule test 1-2 days in advance. I got tested twice (once in Oct, once in Nov) - both times on a Sunday. They said 2 days typically, 3-4 days during peak times for processing, but I got my results on Monday (1 day) both times.

Edit: my wife’s test was 3 day turnaround, but one of those days was Thanksgiving

I'll try to help:

First, nobody is utilizing "waiting rooms." At our office and at the Children's Hospital testing facility, patients are called when a room is ready, you are brought straight to the room, nurses are in full PPE when performing any testing. After the visit, rooms are carefully sanitized.

Is it perfect? Nothing is. But, your chance of exposure is certainly very low, especially when compared to normal medical office/hospital conditions.

My concern would be these "fast food" pop up medical chains.

Guessing they hire from the bottom quartile of health graduates.

Right. That's why I was so thrilled when we were able to get a load of rapids through the government program. It saves our patients from having to go to cut-rate walk-in or retail-based clinics.
