Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Well our dumbazz daughter in law has it. She went to a wedding last weekend and so far she makes 9 people that caught it there. But the dumb thing is she knew (and son knew) people were starting to test positive, started getting the sniffles Wednesday but still came over to our house for dinner on Thursday. So now me and the wife are exposed.
I smell a divorce.

my friend and neighbor passed yesterday from this damn virus. He and his wife came by our house on Thanksgiving....less than a month later he is gone....and her mother, mid nineties, and brother, are fighting the battle of their lives...
I don't know if it would have mattered or not, but he delayed going to the hospital much longer than he should have IMO.

If you are afraid of people with sniffles isolate yourself. With young kids and allergies, I can't breath 10 months of the year. The wedding exposure is the only reason to isolate. But even then, I'm still on the train that unless you have a fever or flu symptoms, then life goes on. But I'm also avoiding my parents because I know they feel differently and am tired of hearing about it.

I am going back to work tomorrow. I have been cleared by the medical people to do so. I got it 14 days ago. The strain I had was no big deal. The 'sniffles' weren't part of what we had.

Sorry, hog. Keep the faith; you won't necessarily get it. My wife took a trip earlier in the year to spend time with a friend - this wasn't a year for their yearly get together, but she went anyway to visit with her friend and see the new house she bought in MN almost on the Canadian border. Her friend seemed to always have other people visiting, and my wife came back and had covid within a week - she was pretty sick for several days. I was pissed to say the least; she's been a nurse for fifty years now and should have known better. The good news is that you can be in a house with someone sick and even take care of them and not get it if you take care. Despite a lot of others here, I do believe in masks done correctly - and the other things like disinfecting surfaces and hand washing.

Are sniffles a symptom? I really dont know but am never asked.

My wife's first symptoms were headaches and a dry cough. When she lost her sense of smell, there was no doubt. By the way that was early August and she still can't taste or smell a lot of things and others are definitely off. To me I guess the question I'd ask most people who get cavalier about it all is, "Are you willing to go months or a year with no sense of smell and eat food that is tasteless or doesn't taste right?" On the other hand my sister and brother in law are just getting over it, and they had almost no symptoms - both tested positive.

They all use headaches as an excuse. At least, that's what I hear. My wife just tells me to leave her alone.

I'm 100% on the "it's the individuals" responsibility to protect themselves. If me and the wife get it It's our fault for having them over for dinner.

She's still a dumbazz though.

There have been thousands of mutations identified, not one would affect the vaccine so far.

How do you know? The strain in the UK is apparenatly causing such concern for a national lockdown all the while a vax is rolled out. Or are goverments exercising oppressive measure?

Of course they are exercising oppressive measures. That by no means has anything to do with the vaccine.

Because to affect the efficacy of the vaccine the mutation would have to alter the “spike” protein that your immune system uses to identify the virus. Last I heard there have been over 40,000 mutations identified and none of them have altered this... so unless this particular mutation is different then the vaccine is still effective.

As far as the lockdown, there are more reasons why a mutation would cause concern. It could be a more contagious strain, it could cause more severe symptoms... I don’t know what the reasoning is in this instance.

In other words you do not know.
