What is the Shielding Approach?

The shielding approach aims to reduce the number of severe COVID-19 cases by limiting contact between individuals at higher risk of developing severe disease (“high-risk”) and the general population (“low-risk”). High-risk individuals would be temporarily relocated to safe or “green zones” established at the household, neighborhood, camp/sector or community level depending on the context and setting.1,2 They would have minimal contact with family members and other low-risk residents.

Current evidence indicates that older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.3 In most humanitarian settings, older population groups make up a small percentage of the total population.4,5 For this reason, the shielding approach suggests physically separating high-risk individuals from the general population to prioritize the use of the limited available resources and avoid implementing long-term containment measures among the general population.

In theory, shielding may serve its objective to protect high-risk populations from disease and death. However, implementation of the approach necessitates strict adherence1,6,7, to protocol. Inadvertent introduction of the virus into a green zone may result in rapid transmission among the most vulnerable populations the approach is trying to protect.

Posted this in another thread. This type of discussion/language is being openly discussed by leftist, govt bureaucrats on many fronts, not just Covid. Yet the lefties on here whistle past the graveyard or they’re absolutely okay with it. Sec of Ed even said they will decide what to teach our children, not the parents. Hundreds of school systems around the country ramming CRT down people’s throats even against overwhelming opposition by parent groups. Openly talking about internment camps for “high risk” individuals. I can only imagine the criteria to meet is purely subjective. Been at a Republican rally? You’re high risk, come with us! Apple now scanning for “possible evidence of child abuse” on people’s phones. Who do y’all think that will be in conjunction with? Hint: Any three letters you want to apply to it and people suspected by a single, innocent photo will be guilty from the start. But the lefties on here keep explaining it all away. It’s all gonna be just fine.

Goes back to what I have been screaming for 4+ years now. Who is more dangerous: a football player taking a knee and exercising his 1st Amendment rights before a random football game or this?

By comparison a third of the world population had the Spanish Flu and its death rate was much higher.

President Joe Biden continues promoting coronavirus vaccine mandates for American citizens, but the White House still struggles to explain why that standard is not applied to migrants crossing the Southern border.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki ignored a question Thursday asking if the administration wants to apply the same vaccine standards proposed for foreign visitors to migrants released into the United States.

Psaki said that “interagency working groups” are developing a plan for international travel but did not address migrants coming across the Southern border.

This variant started in India. They have very little vaccinated. It seems suspect to even think the virus mutated bc of vaccination in India.
