Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19

When did Nooga get a new Mayor? Is the new guy a lib like Burke?

As I type this, I am sitting in my hotel room in Tokyo. I have been here for about 12 hours, and I will be here for another 36. At least we can use the gym... with a mask of course.... can't leave the hotel ... at all... (and dammit, this was the perfect trip to go to a Japanese baseball game... the Giants are at home) but at least the food here is expensive.

I love the Japanese, but this is nutz.

Are they playing with no fans in the stadium or are you just required to quarantine?

It does appear that being vaccinated reduces the chance for severe illness/hospitalization/death if you have not recovered from natural infection. IOW, there's likely some neutralizing ability of the vaccine-stimulated antibodies, but they aren't as good a "fit" with the mutated spike protein.

Have you seen any problems with the vaccine in previously infected people?

In literature, only that side effects could be more pronounced. From first- and second-hand accounts, several. I've had multiple parents that had previously recovered from natural infection tell me they would never get a second dose after the effects of the first one.

None in my own patients, but that's a small subset, given their age.

Thanks. This is running through our office like wildfire right now so I'm again debating on whether to get the jab or not. Got 3 people out now, 2 had been vaxxed.

There isn't good research yet. But I do know of several people who were vaccinated in the past couple of months who have now contracted the virus.

As do I. I had 3 great friends who shook it off like a cold, 1 who struggled a bit and 1 that is diabetic that struggled mightily (he was in pretty bad shape for awhile) all had been vaccinated by company request, not mandated but requested.

I would argue both. Regen- Cov is used for prevention and post exposure. The antibodies essentially bind to the spike protein preventing entry into the cell.
I’ve never heard of a medicine you can take that will get rid of any virus though. Yes, you can lessen its impact on you but I’ve never heard of a cure for a virus. That’s what I was saying. The virus has to run its course. I mistakenly said there’s nothing doctors can do when I meant to say they can’t cure you. Doctors can certainly make it so you don’t get as sick and get better more quickly but, to my knowledge, there is nothing they can give you that will put a full stop in the virus. Even when I got covid that’s exactly what the doctor said. They said they can give a z pack and other things to help with symptoms and they of course said to come back if I started being short of breath but they said that’s all they can do. Prior to covid when my kids would get a viral infection, same thing. It had to run its course. Why would this be any different?

My seven year old granddaughter tested positive last night. She is a very sick little girl. The helpless feeling I have is immense.
Wow. I’m sorry to hear that and truly hope she gets better quickly. My middle son got it and had about 24-48 hours where he felt crappy. After that he was better but still had head pressure and headaches for another 3 days or so before he totally bounced back.

I got the first Pfizer jab. No side effects for me. Wife did it a day later. No side effects. We both had covid in December.

I am so reluctant to any of this. Still debating if I will get the second to complete it.

I took Regeneron and now it isn’t used for prevention. It is given to mild to moderate cases if you meat the criteria.

I see what you are asking now. "Alters" its course would probably be the best descriptor.

I am so glad your son bounced back as quickly as he did. I am hoping the same with my granddaughter. This is my family’s first brush with COVID and it is scary as Hell. That is all compounded by our worrying about her two year old sister.
Thanks so much for your concern and well wishes. I look so forward to the day when this pandemic will be in the rear view mirror.

We have a guy at work that is probably in that range or perhaps higher. We had a ice cream social and he had a huge bowl of ice cream maxed to the tits with toppings. I thought there’s a man who flips off God every morning.
He’s soon going to be flipping off the medical profession. We’ve had delays in treatment because obese people have problems fitting in mri, ct scans in the past until hospitals starting adding machinery that fit up to 500 lb pts. All medical beds went to a drive component, Hillrom was the first to come out with 48” wide beds for bariatric use. My first hospital installed lifts in every room to accommodate people up to 350lbs. All the medical equipment made for obesity has cost billions. Let alone the medical treatments.
I should be careful what I joke about. During my open heart stint we would bring the families back post op to see a pt for a few minutes and tell them what’s going on. I remember seeing one family all above 250 to 300 lbs and saying to the surgeon this family alone will be your next pts. We did emergent open heart on his brother in 6 months time. That’s 150k surgery.
I remember the push on media about big is beautiful. I remember thinking well you just gave several million Americans permission to not care about their health. Bodies don’t carry around an extra hundred lbs and not pay the price eventually.
Public service announcement... get out, exercise, walk, mow your yard... do something that physically taxes your body. Movement is life and you should raise your children to be as active as possible.

Is this where I put all the disclaimers blah blah I’m not a doctor, yada.. should not be construed as medical advice consult your doctor before starting an exercise program ... ugh... whatever .

Speaking of politics, has anyone heard of any successful therapeutics or more-effective vaccine technologies developed under the current administration?
Do you mean actual involvement of the administration that’s looking out for the nations safety with a non sentient being at the helm which requires evaluation, strategy, planning and implementation. No.
Boosters. More of the same.
