Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Wife and I are both vaccinated on June 11th. Wife was feeling sick and we both got tested. She is positive and I’m negative.

Right now we both have stuffy noses.

This whole thing is dumb. There is no way to know if the vaccine worked, if the tests worked, and if the symptoms are real. Everything with my experience right now is very inconsistent.
The stats are pretty clear that the vaccine lowers your chances of contracting Covid and if contracted it lowers your chances of hospitalization and death. What’s the problem?

Very sorry to hear this. Here is hoping she has an easy go of it and recovers quickly. And hoping you remain healthy also.

How does she get it and I don’t? We both have the same symptoms (a runny nose and that’s it). Did the vaccine only work for me? Is the test wrong?

I would just like an explanation of the inconsistency.

Thanks, we both think this whole thing is stupid. Now because of a single test we have to quarantine. I guess we need to go get the kids tested as well. They are all fine.

It’s just more frustrating than anything else. Both of us feel fine, but I’m negative and she’s positive. Sigh…it’s dumb.

All this information is out there.
I just got over Covid. Had the 1st. Spouse fully vaccinated and didn’t get it.

Viral load is the key. A high viral load can overwhelm the antibody response. So, having the vaccine isn’t a garauntee. It does improve your odds significantly.

What led you to get tested? A runny nose?

All I can think to say is your situation just goes to show how little we know about the virus and individual’s susceptibility to infection from it. You guys did all you can it sounds like. Odds are you should have an easier go of it. Hoping that’s the case.

Then why are you going to quarantine?

Completely understandable. And if I were you I’d probably get your kids tested too.

Rules for work, really. Although it isn’t clear what the protocol is for contact tracing if vaccinated, and it’s somebody I live and sleep with. So…I don’t know.

The whole thing has become so vague and twisted.

I work at a private company with 200 other people. No one asks if you had it, have it, someone in your house has it, etc. I am grateful for that situation.

Have you considered getting a self test kit for yourself for a couple of days down the road? You said you have a stuffy nose too. You just might still be in incubation? I’m not trying to worry you hope you don’t take it that way.

We are in the same industry. My work would require quarantine also were I in your situation.

Wife was around someone who tested positive.

We both completed vaccination in June.

I still say this whole thing is dumb. Vaccination, tests, etc.. we don’t know ****.

It’s only 10 days for us. This upcoming Friday is my 9/80 day off, then Monday is a Holiday. So if you count quarantine as starting this past Friday I’m only really not going in for 4 days (Mon-Thurs this week).

I’ll probably just work virtual this week, I guess.

Except that we do know a lot. Hope you guys fair well. I got it at the same time as my best friend. I had first vaccine and got the regeneron. I was symptom free about five days sooner as my friend who wasn’t vaxed.

If your only symptoms are runny nose, then that’s great.

With my allergies I’d need more of an indicator than a stuffy nose. Been that way since I moved to Texas in ‘88. Wife is the same or actually worse. She came in 2nd hand contact at work (contact with a person who was in contact with somebody testing positive). Both she and the first hand person tested negative so we’re just keeping on keeping on. That’s allowed by our current corporate policy.

We are seeing a short term rise in cases here. The weekly site notification email had five people testing positive. Our SOP is to still bring in deep cleaning crews and go scorched earth on the cleaning of the areas. No idea why we still do that 🤷‍♂️

Picking total case count from onset of the pandemic or just since the start of this year when the vaccine was available cat turd? I mean we all know you wouldn’t misrepresent the data 🤡
