Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I'm shocked that our bureaucracies could screw up like this. Stunning. Maybe we should be checking for a third and a fourth duplication of funds. Apparently we just can't shovel enough money out the door fast enough. Maybe war with China would actually be cheaper if it cuts off the monetary pipeline to China
What makes you think this incompetent administration would cut off funding of China if we went to war with them?

A month from now, they’ll be reporting that was their position dating all the way back to early 2020. That’s the way liberal media rolls.
It was a tiny, insignificant sliver of the Democrat party that was ever in favor of #DefundThePolice.

I don't see how you say it's possibly probable.
Likely
The U.S. Energy Department has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak, according to a classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and key members of Congress.

The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory. Four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still judge that it was likely the result of a natural transmission, and two are undecided.

The FBI previously came to the conclusion that the pandemic was likely the result of a lab leakin 2021 with “moderate confidence” and still holds to this view.

WSJ News Exclusive | Lab Leak Most Likely Origin of Covid-19 Pandemic, Energy Department Now Says

2) My understanding from the reporting this weekend is that this is still the theory of many agencies, but that now the Energy Department says that it started in a lab. (footnote: why the Energy Department studied this issue, I have no idea).
Remember when we were questioning the DOE’s involvement on this?

I know you weren’t impressed by the list of 17 National laboratories DOE runs. But I did spot this in that same WSJ article and thought it likely you would find it more impressive.

The Energy Department’s conclusion is the result of new intelligence and is significant because the agency has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research.

And here’s a quick blurb on the FBI’s shaky credentials for delving into something like this

The FBI employs a cadre of microbiologists, immunologists and other scientists and is supported by the National Bioforensic Analysis Center, which was established at Fort Detrick, Md., in 2004 to analyze anthrax and other possible biological threats.

Seems to me they are likely qualified to weigh in on whether this was a lab leak. Agree?

Yes. That’s how Wray phrased it.

*with low confidence (or limited confidence?)
This word likely. I don't think it means what you think it means.

I'd guess the terms "likely" and "limited confidence" mean they believe it was a lab leak, but without being permitted to investigate, there's no way to actually prove the lab leak. Still a virus that hadn't mutated and spread to humans living near the bat caves suddenly grows wings and becomes very virulent in humans in the same town as a lab playing Frankenstein is way beyond just "could have".

That's the scary part of it all. This admin would probably find ways to still fund China's military, and companies like Apple would still be importing Chinese products if possible.

Double bump.

The United States Department of Energy now says it was likely a lab leak.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation now says it was likely a lab leak.

Would you like to throw water on the DOE weighing in on this (a la @lawgator1)?
How about the FBI - do they count?
leak my ass. It was deliberately released.

That's what's coming out next.

For any of the clowns that continue to shift their own goalposts, deny reality, and pretend that they're still right, a short few weeks ago you idiots were saying that development of this virus in a lab was a dangerous conspiracy theory.

I saw a blurb about a recent Fauci statement -

He said that lab leak could be the natural theory? I saw it briefly.
Fauci from interview this weekend with….Jim Acosta.

"A lab leak could be that someone was out in the wild maybe looking for different types of viruses in bats, got infected, went into a lab, and was being studied in a lab, and then came out of the lab. But if that's the definition of lab leak, then that's still a natural occurrence.

The other possibility is someone takes a virus from the environment that doesn't actually spread very well in humans, and manipulates it a bit, and accidentally it escapes or accidentally infects someone and then you get an outbreak."

WTH? Any idea what we call this?

That's called "Gain of Function research." He just perjured himself.
I honestly don’t know that it makes a difference. There was a trail of evidence from NIH to EcoHealth to UNC/WIV that has been completely ignored. He’s basically to the point now that he can say it was a lab leak and no one will hold him or anyone else accountable. It’s the same hubris he’s exhibited throughout. “I am the Science.”

gain of function = creating a bioweapon.

Said creation was released on humanity resulting in millions of deaths.

Crimes against humanity should get him imprisoned for the rest of his miserable life or hanged.
At this point, whether it was intentionally released or accidentally leaked makes no difference to me. The virus was being manipulated to spread more aggressively, and that's GOF research. Case closed. It's already been shown that the US/NIH was funding and involved in that research. Somebody needs to hang, and we probably owe reparations around the world.

I'm not there yet. If Covid had been modified to bypass Asians and attack other races, I'd completely agree with you on an intentional release. I would bet that most of the "researchers" were Chinese military and working on Covid as a bioweapon, but I'm still stuck on it was an accidental release before it was ready to go because they didn't have matching antidotes and vaccines available ... for the Chinese people.

I could see that GOF might be used to develop a directed virus to attack specific cells in the body ... perhaps a cancer eraser, but this GOF screwup was very likely aimed toward creating bioweapons. Unfortunately the Chinese learned a couple of lessons - they can develop a bioweapon and the world won't hold them accountable for a "mistake" ... and worse, we'll give them money to learn how to destroy us.
