Lawn mowing service in Knoxville

bleedorange0037 still around?

Anyone else in Knox that mows? Looking for a new mower. Near Ebenezer/Kingston Pike. Not a big yard.

I've got some landscaping work I'd love to get estimated as well. Bush and shrub bed in front of the house I'd like removed and replaced with grass.

Thanks.
Here you go, DRR.

Thank you sir. I emailed him this morning. I'll shout tomorrow if I don't hear back.

Told him you said everything would be drastically reduced for the VFL family. ;)

Weed and/or grass ID anyone? I've got this growing in my fescue.

Looks like you’ve got some common Bermuda in there

That's what I thought and also didn't want to hear. You know what's funny is nobody in town uses Ornamec. True Green said they don't like to treat Bermuda they try and crowd it out by planting Fescue. Do you want to guess how successful that technique is? I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy some Ornamec from Amazon. I've been reading about some type of surfactant you can pair with it to make the treatment more successful. Anyone familiar with that?

I wouldn't swear to it but when I used Ornamec I thought it came with a small bottle of surfactant . Perhaps it came that way because I ordered it on Amazon.

As you alluded to above there is no way fescue will crowd it out. At least it didn't for me here in East Tennessee. The summers were too hot and would stunt my fescue while the Bermuda thrived. I gave up and used the chemicals.

Don't waste your time with Fusilade. Ornamec with do the trick.

I have the exact same problem with the summer heat stunting the growth every year. An irrigation system would probably remedy that problem but nobody wants to donate one. ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the Fusilade. I also heard Ornamec definitely works but sometimes can take up to 3 weeks after the initial treatment.

Coug. That’s not just Bermuda in there. There are other grassy weeds as well.

When was the last time you over seeded? Maybe a good mowing and over seeding is needed.

I seriously thought about the irrigation system several years ago. I drew up plans and was going to install it myself. Decided against the huge job, and fought the fight for a few more years. I switched over to Zoysia and couldn't be happier. So little maintenance compared to fescue and every bit as pretty if not more for so for 5-6 months of the year.

Out of curiousity, did you sod it or plug it?

Actually both in a way. I decided to buy 2 pallets and cover an area with 1 pallet and put the other in a patchwork fashion. It took 2 good years but it's completely covered now. I took the cheap way out I guess. My lawn is full sun so I was fighting an impossible battle.

That’s actually the way I was going to do mine when I build next year.

2 years seems to be the standard with zoysia. But it is probably the best turf out there.

The first year I was disappointed because I was unrealistic. Then that second year with several high nitrogen feedings about every other month it took off. Best move I have made in terms of landscaping. I got tired of fighting my neighbors weed battle every year. I gave up and now let the zoysia fight that battle.

I had it aereated and overseeded last fall. For whatever reason this summer was just brutal on mostly the backyard. I'm honestly wondering if I should have it both dethatched and aerated.

I used to dethatch and aerate mine each fall. Of course I would overseed about every other year or so when I aerated.

Anyone know of a good, reasonably priced one? I had one but he wouldn't do it unless I set up with weekly recurring mows at $45 a week so I cancelled with him. We just bought the house and don't have a mower yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had so much Bermuda already established when we moved here that I haven't even worried about it. At least it's green...

However, I was considering trying to clean up the front yard next spring/summer. I did aerate and overseed this fall. Is it worth attacking the Bermuda with Ornamec when it starts to show up next season? I literally would have to treat almost the whole front lawn. There is a lot of healthy fescue too.

The down side is the more square footage you have with bermuda the more you'll spend on the Ornamec. A little math work will tell you about how much it'll cost to spray the bermuda. I forget how much a gallon mix actually treats.

Is Ornamec expensive?

$32.50 for a 32oz bottle of it. I'm seeing different ratios from 1/2oz to 2oz per gallon of water.

What ratio did you use KD?

It's been awhile since I used it (like I said, I haven't even attempted it at my newer house). But, I looked it up and there are two strengths: the OTT ratio is 1 tbsp/gal, the 170 (less concentrated) is 2 oz/gal.
