Lawrence Frank - Boston Celtics Assistant

I'm not arguing "Pearl" is UT basketball. I'm saying that style of play and the coach do have a relationship with attendance, and not just winning and losing.

Winning cures all. Everywhere. Period.

many of the same people that compare the records of green and pearl also seem to ignore every post pointing out that their schedules were not very comparable at all. pearl won more while playing difficult schedules every year.

"Nothing to see here move along".......Frank rumor is dead..

And that's the reason for the Green reference. Winning does not cure everything.

Pearl did sell the program better. I've always said that.

Whoever the next coach is will have the opportunity to coach in front of a packed house. He wins, they keep coming back. He loses, then those folks stay home to watch Judge Judy and he's fired.

There's not some magic formula.

Pearl did have an edge in conference record (68% vs. 64%), but the conference was probably stronger during Green's tenure.

Either way, I think that Pearl gave an initial boost of energy that can be sustained by winning. Green certainly didn't provide that wow factor (as Pearl did) and didn't have a predecessor provide it for him (as our next guy did). Also, I have no idea what attendance was like then.

I'm pretty sure some of these posters could give you the Green winning percentage for his time at UT- Better than BP's I've been told.

Didn't say you were. We had that debate couple weeks back. Haha

Saying basketball existed and saying Jerry Green was a great coach are two entirely different things.
To counter the Pearlophiles that are saying the program is down the tubes now that he is gone because of his great coaching, I agree that if Green can win at Tennessee maybe a good coach could take the program to unforeseen heights.

Guys, embrace the power of PMs and keep this back and forth crap out of the thread.

Thanks

I think Green disproves that winning cures all.

OK. I was friends with Del and Torrey and talked to Tony on a few occasions, as well. JG didn't care about his players, at all. That was what all three expressed on numerous occasions.

These young guys need a coach who cares. I don't know how one would gauge that in the process of choosing our new coach; I just hope the new guy cares about his players as much as the last coach did. And can stay within the rules.

Again. How much did he win? Also, were you in attendance when he was here?
Yes, I did attend when Green was here, more earlier in his tenure than later. He was fired after 22-11 season which was his worst (losses). The effort was almost unwatchable, even in victory. This year's team really reminded me of the teams that Green coached. I found the Vols this year difficult to watch.

I would propose that if Jerry Green didn't have the general attitude he had, he would not have been fired. I don't believe he was fired because of wins and losses or underachieving with his talent. Acting like he was doing the state a favor by being at UT followed by other missteps helped hasten his departure. Let's not forget the lack of disciple his teams had. I only mention this because I don't think it's necc fair to say Green proves that winning doesn't cure all. The Tony Harris/UK incident is prime example of why the Green era ended, wasn't just a of a fanbase with unfair expectations. Not saying anyone has said that, just wanted to chip in
