Lawrence Frank - Boston Celtics Assistant

Where on CBS Sports did they say Frank wants $3.5M? Is there a link?

Not that I disagree with the amount, if he in fact wants it. He signed for $10M, 4 yrs ($2.5M/yr) in 2007. I can see wanting a raise. (Of course, he was fired within 2 yrs...)

I don't get why so many on this board want a coach who would have us playing these low-scoring borefest games.

I miss the first few years of the Pearl era. Organized Chaos, fast paced, high scoring games. I want that type of coach.

I want a coach who will win. I don't care nearly as much about the aesthetic.

Yeah, since the controlled chaos system is EXACTLY how Pearl got us to the Elite Eight last year. Good point

That only works if you have guys(Lofton and J. Smith) who can actually shoot the 3 consistently.

1 shot away from an Elite Eight (Ohio State). I mean c'mon, you can't use THAT as your argument considering the 07 and 08 teams are debatable just as good, if not better than last years team.

That 33-36 Penn State v Wisconsin game is the sort of ball we would be playing. I'd hope our scoring wouldn't be THAT low, but it would be the same style of ball.

Attendance will drop, the number of nationally televised games will drop, and I'm honestly not so sure that kind of strategy will work against Calipari. I see Calipari or Donavon coached teams really destroying us with that style.

nm, misread your post.

I love the fans who think UT basketball had good attendance because we scored points. Did our fans stop walking when we stopped using controlled chaos last year? Fans will watch quality.

Nope, the lack of enthusiasm in the crowd this year was strictly related to the switch of style, not the multiple home losses. /sarcasm

What was the attendance during the rousing Jerry Green years? Most people around here think he was a dynamite coach with a good record and seem to like to match his accomplishments with BP.

Who the hell ever said Jerry Green was a good coach?

I've seen his record in here post after post to show that basketball existed before Pearl. Don't know if you were one of those posters or not. The argument goes that his winning percentage is even better than BP's. Just saying, that's the argument.

Not true at all. Winning percentage better. People bring up Jerry Green when people bring up the old, weak, and unfactual argument that UT has had no bball success before Pearl. The fact that Jerry Green did what he did proves UT can succeed in bball. Jerry Green! The point was always made to certain posters who wanted Pearl to stay because they didn't think anyone could win at UT. Before the Geico caveman commercials, UT should have ad a campaign to hire a coach proving UT can succeed. "So easy, Jerry Green could do it"

Saying basketball existed and saying Jerry Green was a great coach are two entirely different things.

He had an ass load of talent. That's why he won.

The argument was that Green is a mediocre coach who won at a similar clip to Pearl. Basically, people were just saying that other guys can win here and Bruce isn't some coaching Messiah (sorry Brandy)

Glad MHF made an appearance. Forever grateful that those appearances are few and far between these days.

And saying that attendance isn't dependent on style of play, only winning is a nonstarter, too.

Why are we talking about Jerry Green? The "Pearl is UT bbal", etc, etc arguments are over. Apparently he is not UT bball, let's move on

I'm not arguing "Pearl" is UT basketball. I'm saying that style of play and the coach do have a relationship with attendance, and not just winning and losing.
