That's not what this is about. The bill doesn't make it legal.

I remember Stossel had a guy on who, when he was 19, had sex with his 17 YO GF. They broke up. She freaked out and told her Mom they had sex. The Mom called the cops. The kids worked it out. Mom tried to drop charges. Cops still charged him. He was convicted. Did a couple years. Got out of jail. Married her. Had kids. AND WAS STILL ON THE SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY.

All this law does is give the judge discretion to keep the gay version of that guy off the sex offender registry. There is no point in lumping him in with the pedos. It makes the sex offender registry unreliable.

I remember the story of an 18 year old football player from Georgia..... went to a party and got a BJ from a girl he met there that told him she was 18 but was really 15.... that guy went away for 10 years..... If that version is true then that is absolutely horrible.

This is the classic example of how the right willingly and eagerly consumes propagandized misinformation. (without even realizing they are being successfully played for a fool) I'm sure there are already 50 right wing memes circulating on how the socialist commie left is trying to legalize pedophilia and how a vote for Biden is a vote for child sexual exploitation. There are a couple hundred thousand old white women looking on in horror as these pop up on their Facebook.

The problem is that some 14 year olds look like they are 18 years old, and so do some 24 year olds. IDK what the right age difference is for the law, but there is an honest mistake that can happen there on the part of the adult.
