Here's one study. Not new. Guess it's not the easiest thing to research.

Rape-related pregnancy: estimates and de... [Am J Obstet Gynecol. 1996] - PubMed - NCBI
The national rape-related pregnancy rate is 5.0% per rape among victims of reproductive age (aged 12 to 45); among adult women an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year. Among 34 cases of rape-related pregnancy, the majority occurred among adolescents and resulted from assault by a known, often related perpetrator. Only 11.7% of these victims received immediate medical attention after the assault, and 47.1% received no medical attention related to the rape. A total 32.4% of these victims did not discover they were pregnant until they had already entered the second trimester; 32.2% opted to keep the infant whereas 50% underwent abortion and 5.9% placed the infant for adoption; an additional 11.8% had spontaneous abortion.

I saw were one of the pacs that backed him in primary has pulled their funding out of MO.

All of the major GOP PACs and the GOP fundraising chairmen for Senate races have cut off funds for his campaign.

Unusual situation. He won the GOP primary now they are trying to force him out of race.
If he does decide to drop out what is the requirements to replace him?

Mizzou GOP can replace him with anyone they want I believe. Not 100% sure though.

Hannity interviewed Akin on his radio show this afternoon and he said he was staying in.

Other than withdrawing funding I don't know what the GOP can do. He should drop out - it would be the right thing to do but given he's a moron I'm sure he'll stay in.

It's not very often anymore that I agree with Obama's words, but his response to the statement was spot-on.

Todd Akin Challenged by Doctors on Rape and Pregnancy - ABC News

In response to Akin’s statement that “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down,” Streicher said, “You let me know if you find the doctor that knows how a uterus knows which sperm to ward off.”

In its statement, ACOG refuted Akin’s original comment: “To suggest otherwise contradicts basic biological truths
.

It is amazing the amount of stupidity we have in Washington. How do these morons keep getting elected to office ?

Without reading the article or thread, wtf is legitimate sexual assault? Must be a mis-qoute or typo.

You have women that make false rape claims and you have women that make legitimate rape claims.

The guy phrased it poorly, but I don't think it is that hard to figure out what he was trying to say if you listen to or read the quote.

I'll get back to my coffee, now.

My guess:

Forced sex (1) other than where the female was asking for it by acting slutty, or (2) perpetrated by a black man on a white woman.

Good question. No it was not a misquote or typo.

The stupidest thing he said imo is:
"If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down,”

I take that statement to mean if the woman is really getting raped she can shut down her reproductive organs and not become pregnant.

It's hard for me to determine which part of the statement is worse - the implication that rape really isn't rape except in a few cases or the implication the body can prevent pregnancy if the sex is unwanted.

Could be one of the dumbest and most offensive political comments of all time.
