Let Us Leave Germany

Who can argue against what these guys are saying?

@Pacer92 @red butler @MercyPercy

I’ll bite. I don’t care if Germany chooses to go down this road. But it cuts both ways. If they want to be in a strategic military alliance against Russia and their allies then they shouldn’t be setting themselves up for energy dependence on that military policy foe. So... throw their asses out of NATO and pull all of our bases out then it works for me!

I don't disagree with us leaving Germany. But I do have one question: What is Germany realistically supposed to do for their energy needs: Go to Russia where it is cheaper and more available or to the United States where it is more expensive and not a reliable?

And on the flip side, we obviously have our own energy needs domestically... why should we be delivering any of our LNG to foreigners?

I’m not disagreeing Ras. They are a closer supplier for sure. But Germany has a choice to make. They are either politically aligned against Russia or they aren’t. If they are then they are idiots for making themselves energy dependent on them aren’t they?

As a kid I lived in Germany as my father was a soldier in the Army. Now it appears that President Trump is finally pulling our troops out of this anti US European trash country. Thank You President Trump from all of the other kids that had to spend part of their youth treated like crap by the Germans. FU Nato, FU Eurotrash!
sounds like you had a lot of the same experiences I had as I kid. I was born there on dads first of three tours. I spent 8 years total there. The last year in Frankfurt ( my freshman year). The building dad worked called the I. G. Farben building was bombed 3 times that year. Germans, particularly the younger generation hate Americans.

I’m not sure anyone can make a logical argument against it. I think most people can now see that the economic/military/political hostages of US capitalism are standing up...both friend and foe. Quite a few more viable and sensible options than US global domination of all..

I think if Germany had its choice, they wouldn't want to deal with Russia. I don't see this as a political shift as much as it is an economic move.

My point is I don’t think you can separate the two and still say you are maintaining national security. Russia is Germany’s blind spot economically just as China is ours.

Same reason most of the oil sands we are bringing from the Dakotas is refined in Louisiana and then sold internationally.

This is the same issue the Nazis had and their reason for war. Germany didn't have the necessary resources, so they built a war machine to conquer and annex countries with material resources. The Germans out of necessity have to buy some of what they need elsewhere. We have an abundance of most resources we need, but we are choosing to make ourselves dependent on the Chinese. Rare earth materials are another interesting topic. China doesn't have a lock on those; what China has a lock on is refining rare earth materials because our corporations didn't see fit to do that here. We source the finished product from China even though the resource may have been dug out of US soil. We had a choice to be smart and keep ourselves independent. Germany has the option to be part of the EU and work with partners like our states do within the US framework. Selling your soul to the Russians or Chinese isn't smart in either case - sole sourcing "clean" energy from the Russians can literally be a life or death decision. We and the Germans are both being stupid - and probably both because of environmental concerns - being "pure" but willing to buy from a couple of the worst polluters. In the end it doesn't make much sense.

Influenced a lot by environmental issues. Germany certainly could invest in nuclear power, for example.

Umm, they actually went away from it after Fukushima.

Germany started phasing out nuclear in deference to the green crowd around 2000. Well before Fukushima. Environmental nuts are driving a lot of really bad policy decisions all over the world - many that are at odds to their own goals.

True, but that incident caused them to speed up the process.

Yep, they started screwing their own asses a long time ago by installing solar panels in a climate that gets as much sunlight as my crawl space does.

I played many a ballgame at Ramstein in Germany and SHAPE in Belgium. We always loved going... was almost like being home.
