Mike Hamilton could have hired Brian Kelly but hired Kiffin. I heard Kelly really wanted this job too. Hamilton hired Dooley over Sumlin and Dooley had a losing record including 4-8 his last year at La. Tech. Now we have the chance to hire Jim Tressel. Tressel is a proven winner. He won a national championship at both Ohio St and Youngstown St. He made a mistake on a compliance issue and got crucified for it. He didnt pay players or run things like SMU 1983. How many of us have made a mistake and deserve a second chance? I say we give Tressel another chance and keep him on short leash with some built in protection in the contract. If he goes to another school or the NFL we get huge money from whoever hires him away from us. If he makes another mistake he gets no buyout and immediate termination.

Tressel has won everywhere he's been. He would win here too. He has paid for his mistakes and been punished. I believe the NCAA would accept that he has had enough punishment and let him move on. Since he's been out of coaching for 2 years the NCAA might even wave the 5 game suspension. Even if they dont what's 5 games in the long run? Especially if we get back to winning big again.

Tressel would be a homerun hire. A guranteed winner. Considering the miss we are in we would be fortunate to get him. I want Gruden like everyone else, but Tressel as the fall back is worth thinking about. He would stay on out of trouble after what he's been through. Other than , Stoops, Saban, Meyer, name me another National Champion coach at the college level that you would rather have? Gruden great if you can get him but if not Tressel would get it done here.

You can apply to the NCAA to reduce the penalty to two years which he has already served. The 5 years isnt engraved in stone and can be changed by submission of another University.

If you don't remember all the garbage surrounding that piece of garbage, you might want to read up on it again. Just say no to sweater vest.

More than just one mistake. Surprises me how little research people do before making new threads.

Sports Illustrated also wrote an article supporting the rehire of Tressel and he worthy of another job. Research that.

Not sure how they felt that way. If you have a link to an online article, I'd skim it to see their point of view. But, why would anyone want to hire a liar who has withheld pertinent info from several schools in order to try to succeed. Sports Illustrated and others might have high accolades about John Wooden, as well. But, a cheater is a cheater and a liar is a liar at the end of the day.

Umm, isn't there like a 5 year show cause penalty to worry about here?

Who would be our coach until 2015?
A 5yr Show Cause is NOT A 5YR BAN. In simple, layman's terms, the NCAA gave him a 5 game ban and a postseason appearance ban (both for the first year only). Now, that penalty would have applied to him effective immediately, if he had stayed at OSU. He resigned, so a SHOW CAUSE simply means that, within a 5yr period, if a team wants to hire Tressel, they would have to accept those penalties HE incurred, and apply them to him.

If the team did not want to apply the penalties, then they would schedule an appearance before the infractions committee to SHOW a CAUSE why not. In UT's case, they could either accept the already stipulated 5 game penalty or they could schedule the show cause and ask to have the penalty reduced/waived. UT could very well do that, since Tressel voluntarily paid the penalty, last year, by sitting out 6 games after being hired by the Colts as an assistant. He was not required to do that, because the NCAA has no jurisdiction/authority outside of College athletics.

It's very likely that the NCAA would grant a reduction/waiver in some form. All UT has to do, really, is just monitor Tressel's communications (e-mails) within the AD, and send a report twice a year. They report progress to the NCAA regularly anyway, so it's really just a formality.

Sounds good. I`d sure take The Vest over The Dool-Pigeon anyday. Tressel was 0 for against SEC teams, however.(Sugar Bowl over Ark was vacated) So...? Go Vols!
