Sounds good. I`d sure take The Vest over The Dool-Pigeon anyday. Tressel was 0 for against SEC teams, however.(Sugar Bowl over Ark was vacated) So...? Go Vols!

What about the season he won the NC? It wasn't his fault no SEC team was ranked high enough to play in the NC game? The only ones I remember him losing was UF and LSU. Big deal. Even the best SEC teams lose to each other. Bama did last year. In 2010, our lowly team came a frog hair's distance from taking their marbles and Blaring RAMMER JAMMER, WE JUST BEAT THE HELL OUT OF YOU!

Again, he terrorized his conference. That's what we want here. At least he GOT to the big dance in order to go head to head with the SEC's BEST. Doesn't make him less of a coach, IMO.

I still say the best part is that we could pay him roughly what we are paying now, and invest the extra few million (we would otherwise have to pay someone like Gruden or Patterson) in his staff. I mean tell him "go after some NFL assistants if you want. Money will not an obstacle."

Good points. You are correct he lost 41-14 vs Fla in 06 and 38-28vs LSU in 07. He dominated his rival(7-1vs Mich) and dominated the big ten. I would jump up&down&fist pump if he were announced. You`re point about assistants is something I didn`t think of,and is certainly enticing as well. Your post bumped him waaaay up on my list. good post!! Go Vols!!

Umm, isn't there like a 5 year show cause penalty to worry about here?

Who would be our coach until 2015?

The show cause penalty does not involve recruiting!! He would not be allowed to coach the 1st five games of his 1st year and would not be allowed to coach the bowl game of his first year. all the rest of the 5 yrs is propation. So Someone might hire him this year.

My first choice is still Jon Gruden, but Jim Tressel would be a strong second choice.

Particularly after reading some of the homework y'all did on his Show Cause situation.

If Tressel is hired he can't coach the 1st 5 games of the season or the bowl game....He is a waste and would have us on probation in no time.

Yeah, and he can get Petrino for his OC, go ahead and bring in Chizik as a LB coach, and Randy Shannon as DC.

Nevin Shapiro and Bobby Lowder can become two of our biggest boosters.

If we are real lucky, maybe Orgeron will come back to coach the O line and Trooper will rejoin the flock at WR coach.

Barry Switzer can be the new AD.

Be a great hire if we get down to coordinator level but not before guys like Patterson and other proven head coaches not under scrutiny.

The thing about Tressel is that it wasn't much of a shock to anyone that he finally got caught. He was slimy at Youngstown St. as well.

You can't be serious. He grabbed a lightning bolt and slew the kid, eh? :loco: Good grief, people.

He sent a terrified kid up in a tower in high winds. The tower blew over and the kid died. Meanwhile, down the road at OSU, Tressel was telling reporters on the same day that he was moving practice indoors because they were worried about the kids up in the towers. It was not an unpredictable, random accident. It was a stupid, knowable, unnecessary risk, and a kid died because Kelly was worried more about seeing video of his own team practicing than he was the safety of Notre Dame students. It's a disgrace that he wasn't fired immediately.

(Note that they fired George O'Leary the instant it came out that he'd fudged his résumé. Apparently that's worse than causing a death through criminal negligence.)

Coaching the 1st 5 games or not means little in the whole outlook of hiring JT. The minute he is hired UT would be on probation until the end of his show cause. WTH would we want that? JT would be a very bad hire IMO. Who wants to announce a new head coach and in the same presser announce we are now on probation/sanctions?

Criminal negligence? Really? Why was he not indicted then?

I believe the law reads that anyone who causes the death of another person by criminal negligence is guilty of an indictable offence and liable.

 The link is in the post right before yours.

I'll read it again later. My comprehension must be turned off. I read through his prayer box on his desk, faith and such through all his lies and rule breaking to remain successful. I got that part fine.:hi:

Tressel is basically a more neatly-dressed version of Fulmer.

- He had no problems against his own conference when it was declining across the board

- He was well-known as "a player's coach", and went out of his way to keep players on the field who had no business being outside of a prison

- He retained several assistants for multiple years when it was apparent that they weren't D-1 caliber

Set aside "the track record", and do some analysis. I don't have any interest in seeing Tressel in Knoxville.

Says Michigan and Penn State fans. Bama is slimy too. They had football athletes do the same type of thing OSU players were accused of....selling their own stuff. In this case, textbooks. Funny the NCAA never made a big deal out of that, but did with OSU. Why? Because whiny Big Ten opponents balled and squalled, trying to make a federal case out absolutely nothing. We didn't make that big a deal about Bama's Book Gate.

All that is fine until you consider he has played for BCS NCs, has played in 7 BCS bowls, and compare all that to the other options.

Mike Hamilton could have hired Brian Kelly but hired Kiffin. I heard Kelly really wanted this job too. Hamilton hired Dooley over Sumlin and Dooley had a losing record including 4-8 his last year at La. Tech. Now we have the chance to hire Jim Tressel. Tressel is a proven winner. He won a national championship at both Ohio St and Youngstown St. He made a mistake on a compliance issue and got crucified for it. He didnt pay players or run things like SMU 1983. How many of us have made a mistake and deserve a second chance? I say we give Tressel another chance and keep him on short leash with some built in protection in the contract. If he goes to another school or the NFL we get huge money from whoever hires him away from us. If he makes another mistake he gets no buyout and immediate termination.

Tressel has won everywhere he's been. He would win here too. He has paid for his mistakes and been punished. I believe the NCAA would accept that he has had enough punishment and let him move on. Since he's been out of coaching for 2 years the NCAA might even wave the 5 game suspension. Even if they dont what's 5 games in the long run? Especially if we get back to winning big again.

" I say we keep a short lease" yuup...that's how we need to start off a working relationship to rebuild a program. Seriously... please
