Tressel is better than Dooley but I would rather have Dooley.

Keep your trash.

Ohio State fired Tressell for lying to the NCAA

Tennessee fired Bruce Pearl for lying to the NCAA

Both coaches have show cause penalties. If UT did hire Tressell and he had even the slightest NCAA violation. We would be crucified by the NCAA.

Sweatervest HATES the South and the SEC; he wouldn't be caught dead South of the Mason-Dixon Line... well, maybe dead he would.

What does Tressel have to do with Brian Kelly or Kevin Sumlin? If anything, their success demonstrates that we should be looking to the mid major ranks for proven winners like Butch Jones, Sonny Dykes, Mark Hudspeth, etc. Tressel is a proven winner but he's also on the downside of his career, he's ancient, and he's been in major NCAA trouble. When has a hire like that ever worked out?

Tressel with a permanant life suspension would be more likely than Gruden ever being hired. I say it can`t hurt to ask and he would a winning coach.

Orange Sweater Vest with a winning record beats orange pants with a losing record every time.My Mom would be better than Dooley and would at least go for the win with 40 seconds and 2 time outs.

Criminal negligence? Really? Why was he not indicted then?

I believe the law reads that anyone who causes the death of another person by criminal negligence is guilty of an indictable offence and liable.

The head football coach of Notre Dame would probably have to strangle someone with his bare hands in broad daylight in order to get arrested by the South Bend Police. Same reason Kelly's football players get accused of sexual assault but never charged.

I'm no lawyer, but if forcing a terrified kid to climb high in a tower during a high wind and then watching that tower subsequently blow over and kill the kid isn't negligence, then I don't know what is.

Former UT QB [Jerry Colquitt said on the radio today Jim Tressel would be a great hire. Colquitt said he could recruit nationally and would run an offense that would win in this league. He would also bring in a good staff and fit all the other criteria necessary to make Tenn a winner again. Check out the archives on the Tony Basilio show 11-13-12 1st hour.

I did. Couldn't find it. Do you have a link?

I thought it was just me. I read four pages telling about SI investigation and what all he did regarding lying to everyone. Thought maybe I stopped reading too soon.

I would rather another team take this penalty. Kiffin would not have been a bad hire if he had stayed in my opinion.

Broadcaster at a Columbus Ohio radio station was on the Eric Ainge show today. He said Tressel can flat out coach and is among the best in the profession. The guy said Tressel is a really good man and just made a mistake. Tressel deserves another chance to coach IMO. Think about this-- do you think after all that happened to him and all he lost would he make the same or a similar mistake again? I dont believe he would. Therefore, why not take a chance on him ? Who has a higher ceiling Jim Tressel or Gary Patterson Tressel or Golden? Tressel or Charlie Strong? Tressel has a higher ceiling than all those coaches. The only available coaches out there that has won National Championship are Fulmer maybe Stoops and Tressel and Larry Coker. Fulmer cant comeback Stoops who knows and Coker yeah right. Pete Carrol, Meyer, and Saban are entrenched with huge buyouts. The Mad Hatter down in LSU has a Nat. Champ. but I dont think he's of Tressel's calibur. Tressel is as good as Saban and Meyer and has NO buyout. And he has already won a National Champ. at two levels of football. Also he left on top because Ohio St. is loaded . Remember everybody can make a mistake because we are all human. Let's give Jim Tressel the opportunity and he will make us champions again.

Why does everyone want an old guy who has been fired recently? How often does that work out well?

I don['t view it as a "mistake". A mistake is when you hit the g key on the keyboard and you meant to hit the f key. Lying and covering up is nowhere in the realm of a mistake in my eyes. Also, if the ineligible (that he knew were ineligible at the time) had not played the last season, what would that record be? If you hire Tressel, you might want to change the theme song from Rocky Top to Flirting With Disaster.

All that is fine until you consider he has played for BCS NCs, has played in 7 BCS bowls, and compare all that to the other options.

Against who, exactly? The Big Ten has been pathetic for most of the last 12 years, and no one has actually been even a conference contender year-in-and-year-out (let alone a national contender).

Records from 2001-2010:
Illinois - 47-73 (0-2 in bowl games)
Indiana - 41-77 (0-1 in bowl games)
Iowa - 85-41 (6-3 in bowl games)
Michigan - 79-46 (2-6 in bowl games)
Michigan State - 66-58 (1-5 in bowl games)
Minnesota - 59-65 (3-4 in bowl games)
Northwestern - 60-63 (0-5 in bowl games)
Ohio State - 106-22 (6-4 in bowl games)
Penn State - 79-45 (4-3 in bowl games)
Purdue - 63-61 (2-4 in bowl games)
Wisconsin - 88-42 (4-5 in bowl games)

Ohio State has been in the Big 10 exactly what Oklahoma has been in the Big 12 during the same time period. A major perennial contender declined (Nebraska in the Big 12, Michigan in the Big 10), a couple of different schools rose up randomly for a year or two (Illinois and Iowa in the Big Ten, Missouri and Texas Tech in the Big 12), and there's another school that usually hangs around toward the upper echelon with a couple of years being able to contend nationally (Wisconsin in the Big 10, Texas in the Big 12).

The difference is that the Big 12 has seen a bit of a resurgence in recent years, while the Big 10 continues to plummet. Oklahoma is able to continue to hold their own against an increasingly-difficult conference, while Tressel's Ohio State teams did exactly what John Cooper's teams did...they'll roll through the conference, but have at least one absolutely baffling loss every single year. In Cooper's case, it was always against a team from Michigan. In Tressel's case, it was against everyone else, and only a couple of them were against a team that was remotely comparable to OSU.

The Big 10, as a whole, usually had Ohio State at the top, then a couple of teams in the 8-4 or 9-3 range, then a couple at 6-6 and 7-5. Everyone else was usually between 3-9 and 5-7. Every single year.

You know, I can agree with all that. But the fact still remains that he dominated his schedule. If you want to throw all this out there as a reason not to hire Tressel, why aren't you defending the schedule that Dooley has had to play as a reason not to fire him?

Tressel has won at every level he has been on, is a proven east coast/national recruiter, dominated his biggest rival at OSU (8-1 against Michigan), and has a BCS Chapionship (beat maybe one of the most talented college football teams ever).

I get that he carries some baggage, but he is just about the most proven major college football coach available at this point in time.
