guys, they are dead serious about getting pearl, you cant turn on the radio and not hear something regarding him and if he would come. I can't lie and say that this whole thing doesnt worry me, but im hoping that Pearl will stay committed to UT.
Bottom line, Memphis is going to shell out alot of money to anyone that they deem necessary to keep the program where it is and they are willing to accept one or two down years, RC Johnson said that himself. Pearl is the guy who could pull that here in Memphis. i would absolutely loathe memphis for doing so, but its not out of the realm of possibility.

If they think Bruce Pearl is going to keep them where they're at, Memphis must have peyote in the city's water supply.

Anyone see the Commercial Appeal article where they compare Calipari's first 4 years at Memphis to Bruce's first 4 at UT? Calipari has two NCAA trips and 1 win, Bruce had 4 NCAA trips, 2 sweet sixteens. Now lets see how he compares over the next 4.

no but they are willing to sacrifice a down year or two like i said, there is a poll on wmctv5.com asking people if they think pearl is the right guy and every sports caster or radio host here thinks he is....its just disturbing to me

He never said it had to be remotely possible for them to take the job. He just asked who could do the same that Pearl did in the four year span. I completely agree with you that we had no chance at those guys.

I was trying to be facetious which, admittedly, is hard to do on an internet message board

Hat - if this were to happen - unlikely imo - who should we go after? And who do you think Hamilton will go after?

Other coaches could have done what Pearl has done, but none of them would have accepted the UT job after Buzz, et al were done with it. Pearl did, he was a hot name that year, he could have gone other places I'm sure. I'm not crazy about his x's and o's, but at a minimum, Pearl has given us the necessary exposure to fill this position with a quality coach when and if he decides to leave.

Should: Nolan Richardson, Sean Miller, Lawrence Frank, Tim Floyd.
Will: Sean Miller, Oliver Purnell, Brian Gregory, Phil Martelli.

If he went after Oliver Purnell I'd track Hamilton down and throw a chair at him.

Eh, if he goes oh well. I want Rick Petino to come to UT but that's never going to happen so if BP is the best we can do then I can live with that.

Part of me is just worried we let Pearl go and then hire someone worse. I know there are better coaches out there, but do we get them? Would someone like Purnell even be much of an upgrade?
