Honestly it looks like he's going to be the starting QB. We can hope and dream of a freshman coming in and being just that good but I wouldn't bank on it. So what does everyone think of Worley? Is anyone optimistic about him? Has anyone seen anything out of him that makes them think he can bring something to the table?

The reason I'm asking is because I pretty much only hear negative talk about him from other fans (and to be honest I'm not exactly excited about him either). So does anyone out there have reasonable hope that this kid could be the real deal? Does he seem to have any specific skill set (game management, checks down well, etc) that would make you feel that way?

Basically do you/ do you not like him? And why/ why not?

Personally, I like Justin Worley. He was a highly-touted QB coming out of high school, and although he may not have had the best mentors or coaching in the past couple of seasons, he still did have those seasons to improve and prepare. So far, he has only had opportunities to play against patsy teams and elite teams and not much middleground. From what I've seen, he doesn't have the accuracy or arm strength that Bray had, but he is more mobile and he makes good decisions (definitely unlike Bray). I guess the real question is how quickly he adapts to the new offensive scheme; I think he'll be fine. Maybe not an MVP QB, but I definitely think he'll do a decent+ job, will continue to improve, and will be our starter throughout the season. It will be interesting to see how much his emotions factor into play, but if he can control those in clutch situations, it'll be a step-up from what we've had in the past few years.

I hope he has a great season. I don't think he will be flashy but maybe that's what we need. All the publicity is on the other 3 but I think he will be a steady hand who leads the Vols to a couple of upsets.

At this point I don't see how any of us can make a clear evaluation of him. We have only seen him in junk time and usually just handing the ball off long after the game has gotten away from us.

I doubt anyone in those situations would fair much better. I hope that he spends his summer hours with his WR's and makes the best of his time. I am sure Peterman, Dobbs and Ferguson will make plenty of noise in the fall and that may be the biggest factor in his development.

I seem to remember Cincy swapping QB's on a regular basis - was that under Jones or Kelly?

He was thrown in the lions den his freshman season and it showed with poor performances. He only threw a few passes his sophomore season. I just don't think I have seen enough of this guy to form an opinion. I can tell you though that I would love nothing more than for him to come in a tear sh*t up, just so everyone that has trash talked him has to eat their words.

I personally think Dobbs, Peterman, or Fergusson will be the starting guy. When you have the immaturity that we have WR you are going to need a mobile QB to help those guys buy time. I dont think Worley has the wheels to do it.

I thought he was a 3 star guy with not many big offers.

But Dobbs was offered by three Ivy League schools so he should start. Sorry. Anyway heard on one the shows that Worley is taking command of the offense and organizing workouts. I hope he gets the chance to shine personally. Do we really want true freshman coming in and starting?

I just hope Worley gets the opportunity to to play. If he shows he can't cut it then give someone else a chance. Just hope Worley gets a fair shot.

I think racerx is correct. I think it's impossible to get a good read on him. The HORRIBLE coaching/atmosphere he's been under plus the limited action in bad situations makes it impossible to evaluate him fairly.
It's going to be fun watching a Vols team actually know their assignments and play with discipline again.

Worley will be fine. the WR position group will be a much bigger issue than the QB position. lack of experience there will be very difficult to over come

I don't give a rats ass what class he's in, frosh Red shirt Frosh or 5th year Sr. The QB that gives us the best chance at winning should start. I think that's exactly what Jones will do.

i agree with this as well and the experience will help him. im still enamored(sp) with Petermans ability to run. i think it may be the difference in winning the job.

My hope is that Worley this year is more like McCarron is with AL. No flashy numbers, but effective with very low turnovers and a good running game. Ball control with long sustained drives keeping the D off the field.

Has worked out fairly well for AL. JMO

I like J.Worley I just don't think he's the best starting qb. IMO , its Peterman dobbs and furg then Worley

Unreal. How can you make that assumption when Worley is the only one that has taken snaps in a college game? It blows my mind by how many people aren't giving this kid a chance.

Yes there is a lack of experience but WR is a skill position that lends itself to being grasped quicker than some others. Like I said in another post, it'll be fun just watching the team know their assignments and I think the WR will know them by season start.

So far in the 9 games he's played in, he has a career pct of 57.3% and 5 INTs to just 1 TD. Hopefully, this will be a breakout season.

Agreed that he hasn't had enough time to make a fair judgement. I don't think his coaching was terrible as Chaney is a good coach. A couple of "his" bad plays were on the receivers not reading the hot route. We will know more mid way through the season.
