And how about some VolNation shirts, Freak?!? We could order them from you, so you'd make the $$$. Orange and white. Volnation on the front with our VN names on the back so that when we saw each other in the stadium we could high five. Let's take this to the next level!!

I've been hoping the same thing for awhile now. At least a feature to notify you when replied to, or a post gets a "like". Maybe even show you who liked it, rather than just the number. I definitely think there is a demand. And you're right, I only open my browser for VN and Craigslist...everything else has an app.

I think it's just the making of the app that has set it back. It's a lot different than running a website. Not saying freak or any other mod can't do it. It's just a lot of hassle. But, I think it would be worth it. There's a lot of money to be made in the app world. If flappy bird can make 2.6 million in a month I'm sure we could make atleast a grand.

It most definitely is! At my current job, I handle and care for Alligator's. I've wrote a lot of papers on em. Fascinating creatures.

Freak, don't be mad for us getting off topic. :)

Thats a great idea. It would get the Volnation brand out into the public and it'd free advertisement, except he would be making 15 or 20 bucks a shirt that he could invest in other Volnation projects such as hats, bumper stickers, beer cozies, and key chains. Haha Damn Freak, I'm making you money already. XD

He's going to wake up in a few hours to a whole new business plan haha. Maybe if we had an App, he'd know we were talking about him!!!

This is all coming together! I will be having "berryvol" stitched in the back of my number 14 jersey tomorrow and Volnation on the front over the numbers!

Volnation shirts should be had by all. Its a business venture that could quite possibly become a very profitable operation. If someone jumps on the idea, they gone make that money. Ya feel me?

I work in web design, marketing, and software. A mobile app would be ideal. I often get frustrated with the site on mobile, but probably just because I'm a web designer and notice things that most wouldn't.

PLEASE DEVELOP AN APP!

*EDIT*

Decided to include some specifics:

-The traditional dropdown menu style is extremely frustrating on mobile. VN App would navigate much more smoothly with a side drawer menu (aka "hamburger menu"). You could even do separate side drawer menus on either side, one for main site navigation and one dedicated to forum navigation.

-Advertisements need to be displayed differently on mobile, so simply shrinking the desktop site to mobile size for the home page and other non-forum pages, is not ideal. You could do ads as an overlay that get "x'd" off to open a full screen view. Opening new pages opens new ads.

-Push notifications could be the biggest opportunity to increase user engagement. Allow settings for push from specific forums, threads you created, or likes/quotes from threads you commented in. Plus breaking news notifications...BOOM!

These are only a few, but thought they were worth mentioning.

Agree with this.

I have that, it's called The Spouse and it's notification shames me into working on the honeydo list.

With ya Orangedog.

I've only been married for 6 years so I got a question. Does that list ever get shorter? Seems like the more I work it the longer it gets.

I'd agree with this. I could see Facebook integration being an interesting opportunity as well. I know Freak asked what kind of benefits users would like to see in an app a while back.

I completely agree that the mobile version is less than perfect - but when compared to the experience when accessing Volnation through a forum app such as Tapatalk, I actually prefer the mobile web version.

Sure, if Freak developed (or commissioned someone else to develop) a VN mobile app, it would likely be a better experience than what is currently delivered via mobile web or forum applications. There are, however, more than a few downsides that are standing in the way of Freak making such a decision.

Time and money are likely the biggest. If Freak attempts to develop and maintain the application himself, that will be a MAJOR time constraint. If he commissions someone else to do it, certain aspects may not be exactly what he wants, and there will be a fairly impressive price tag (for both development AND maintenance) associated with such a project.

I love this idea, but pleaseeee make sure it's Android compatible!

Here is part of the problem with developing a mobile app for a website. "Android compatible" means that it will work within the framework of the Android OS. That does NOT ensure that it will work with your device.

The current version of the Android OS is 4.4.4, though, most devices are running a version lower than 4.4 (including a few running the developer preview of Android L, aka 5.0 beta). There is also the issue of differing hardware (both internals and screen size/resolution). This isn't a big issue for name brand devices, but those cheaper, entry-level devices may not have an optimal combination of internals and screen size/resolution for such an app.

I'd agree with this. I could see Facebook integration being an interesting opportunity as well. I know Freak asked what kind of benefits users would like to see in an app a while back.

Given all the recent privacy concerns, most people (myself most definitely included) want LESS Facebook integration, not more. If that were optional, and not required, then I'm sure many would be for it.

My suggestion to all of you who want a mobile app for VN is to first try a forum application - Tapatalk likely being the most popular. Then take into account all of the pros and cons, as well as financial and time restrictions that would come with the development, testing, deployment, and maintenance associated with creating a mobile VN app. Ask Freak all you want, but I seriously doubt there is enough traffic to support the effort necessary to create and maintain a mobile app worthy of VN.

An app would be a recruiting violation.

The mobile version is mint, very easy to use, even with fat thumbs. An app would be no improvement.
