Lil Wayne playing the guitar

I will say that over the last 6 months lil wayne has fallen off a little bit, but the carter, Carter II, Drought 3, and The Leak are all really good albums. If you don't think so you either haven't heard them or you are ignorant.

I can assure you that its not the latter...Now my point is invalid, WTG!

Everyone's opinion is just what it is...an opinion. Making statements like Lil Wayne is the best rapper alive leads one to think that your opinion of what rap is, greatly differs from most.

If rap is an art form then Lil Wayne is working with macaroni and bow tie pasta, while rappers like Lupe and Mos Def are using pastels.

edit: and I am from the south....I like Luda, 8ball, i even liked No Limit (early stuff)

Tell me how that is. Lil Wayne is easily the most popular rapper in the industry right now.

IMO, rap has moved away from what it is at its core, a means of artistic expression... I just like my rappers to be able to flow...for some reason this has lost its importance among the CD buying public.

I will agree with your point that Lil Wayne is not nearly as good now as he used to be, though.....Ever since he went mostly solo, I havent cared for him at all. I liked the stuff with Juvenile though.

The biggest problem with rap right now is everyone trying to use this voice box stuff. Leave that to T-pain, he is the only one who can pull it off.

That hurt my ears.... and his guitar playing was bad too.

See... that's just it. Most popular has nothing to do with being the best. Hammer and Vanilla Ice sold a bunch of records, also.

Agree on both points... but even when he was with Juvy, his flow was suspect.

Rasputin, you took all my points and distorted them. I realize that most popular doesn't mean best, but he said I am one of the few who like him and I was pointing out that I am NOT the only one. There are many famous rappers that I cant stand. As for T-pain, I absolutely hate him. He is the only one who can use the voice box and have success with it is all.

Now compare Lil Wayne's "freestyle" to this freestyle session.

G4 - The Pile - Freestyle 101: Tha Alkaholiks&

Lil Wayne couldn't even write a lyric this tight, muchless come up with one off the top of the head...

That was good... I'll admit, I like that.

How does your ignorance about hip-hop jargon prove anything?

It doesn't, I guess.... just asking a simple question. But look at the lyrics, they make absolutely NO SENSE!

Agree, and while i have not listened to rap in a long time I think UGK cannot be left out.

That was good... I'll admit, I like that.

J-Ro's lyric: "I done been to cities that I can't pronounce; More bounce to the kilo... to hell with the ounce..."

Tash's lyric: "If you under 21, you probably guessing what my name is; Pick your favorite rapper in the hood, I'm just as famous. My aim is, to show these young n***** how it's done right; you still bring that same can of mace to a gun fight."

Just about anybody can write down a lyric or two and make a song. But there are very few rappers that can freestyle and drop lines like that.

Like I said, Lil Wayne would get demolished by a true freestyle rapper. Tash and J-Ro from the Alkaholiks are just 2 of about 15 or so established rappers that would smoke Lil Wayne like a joint.

Lil wayne doesn't write anything down anymore, it is all in his head. Watch his interviews, all of his verses are freestyles. There aren't many rappers that can say that.

If he freestyles, his freestyles suck... And that is what seperates him from any other top tier rapper in my mind. His lyrics don't make any sense or have any kind of structure or storyline...

What makes your opinion more valid than anyone else? It is all about what style of rap you prefer. My top 5 rappers right now are

1. Lil Wayne
2. Lil Boosie
3. T.I.
4. Yo Gotti
5. Young Buck

I would agree with all but Boosie. Can't stand him, I'd put Jeezy in there somewhere along with Lupe

As long as I'm not listening to trash by Soulja Boy(hear it everytime I ride with in my friends' cars) or DJ Kahled(Good Lord who can listen to this idiot scream during the whole song; I love We Takin over and Im So Hood(Remix) but his annoying voice makes me want to reconsider listening to those songs anytime they come on.

T-Pain and Lil Wayne sell records and get spins on the radio. Like it or not, rap that sells big makes people want to dance. No one wants to be in a club dancing to a song about disenfranchisement in the inner city. They want to hear a catchy beat with stupid lyrics pertaining to getting laid.
