Jody would do it, but I'm not sure that would be the wise choice. She's had some problems along the way that would need to be vetted.

Dawn would never leave SC to come to UT. Why would she? She has her program on a roll.

Matt Mitchell- can't afford him and what has he done anyway? Made a little noise but that's it. He's never won anything of any significance.

Jody was cleared by the WSU and the NCAA. The complain was that she treated players bad because she over practiced them, especially when they played a bad game. A couple of players stood up for her but she had a few whinny babies on her team. She is tough and don't take no crap. Her expectations are high.

True, but I would dig deeper before handing over the keys. That's all I'm saying.

Goestenkors' experience at Texas also proves that bringing in an experienced HOF coach ("winningest coach never to win a championship") who got top recruits is no guarantee of return to greatness. That said, she has the chops if she has the desire to take on a makeover project.

I agree that Nikki should have stayed at UCLA a bit longer to keep building that program. Her LSU tenure hasn't added to her resume, but she would be welcomed with open arms by the LV faithful.

I still have a soft spot for Kellie Jolly-Harper, but she has to reproduce her success with a smaller program as she did at Western before getting another shot at the majors. Would still be a vast improvement over the current situation, IMO.

As for Becky Hammon...my original candidate...does she have a legitimate shot at a head coaching job in the NBA anytime soon? And would it be for a cellar-dweller in which the odds of failure were high? In other words, how important is it for her to hang around hoping to make history compared to taking over a major college program? She's said that her future is open re: coaching opportunities. Even if she were willing & the pay amenable, would she be the right hire given the uncertainty with the current players, possible transfers, lack of incoming talent, etc.?

I think most would want someone who has run a successful college program that has shown growth under her/his tenure and has an established track record, although making a big PR splash with Hammon would be rolling the dice (high risk vs. high reward). The question is whether to go with someone like GG who is currently available, go after someone ready to move up (Adams, if vetting clears her program), or a young up-and-comer who is a cinch to take the next step.

The $ Hart would spend would eliminate part of the candidates off the bat. Alumni will support spending over a cool million for Shoop, but unlikely that there will be any sort of call for raising the stakes to bring in someone making more than Warlick given that Auburn's coach already makes more than her anyway.

Doris Burke.

She has dwelt inside GA's colon for years, so she should have the inside scoop on all his successful tactics.

You hit the nail on the head! You're reasoning is why I also left Kelly Jo off of my list. Need to see her get NC State at least in the discussion in the ACC

Kind of hard to do since she hasn't been at NC State for a couple of years now. :banghead2:

Kim's buyout was way too big at that time and Hart will not pay the amount of money that these top 4 or 5 names would require. If people are going to make suggestions, at least try and keep it realistic.

What you point out here is not at all comforting because it means Hart is working as hard as he can to ensure the program will be as mediocre as possible. :eek:hmy:

Kellie is at Missouri State now (I think this is her third season with them).

Here's their current record for this season: Missouri State University Official Athletic Site - Women's Basketball

Note that her team beat Ole Miss by 13 on the road and also beat Arkansas by 15...again, on the road.

Anyone think she wouldn't be preferable to CHW?

Why would he leave where he has built a legacy to some arguably better than Pat's? (He has more National Titles and will probably put the number out of reach for any other coach in the next decade)

I would give up my 4 decades-long support of the LV if this Faustian deal were even possible. I wouldn't be able to ever enjoy a LV game again due to the nausea of watching him strut the sidelines. The ticket-takers would have to pass out buckets to the home crowd at the turnstiles.

He's not going anywhere else...ever. He has his sights set upon building the greatest BB dynasty in either men's or women's BB...if he can double Wooden's NC record, even people who hate WBB will have to acknowledge his ability.

Not that it matters what I think but if a coaching change is to be made, there needs to be a clean sweep of the entire coaching staff to include the support staff as well as the basketball director of operations. Everyone that sits on the bench or supports the program in the background needs to be removed from the team. Let the new coach put their staff in place. Treat it as a cancer and start over. Put all players on probation and observe them for signs of cancer as well. If found, treat it as aggressively as well. Don't do things half-a$$ed, kill em all and let God sort it out. That should satisfy all but the trolls who will never be satisfied until LV basketball no longer exists. That is all. You are dismissed.

This is an exercise in frustration because Holly will not be replaced as long as Hart is the Athletic Director.Hart has destroyed Women's programs at Florida State and Bama and is well on his way to do the same at Tennessee.

When has Hart ever gone out and grabbed a big name coach. Rick Barnes is the closest to that and he fell into Dave's lap. It wasn't like he had to go out and convince him to come here since he was unemployed.

Question, Rick:

Acknowledging that, as Holly & Kyra said, there's still a lot of bb left to be played this season...and being personally willing to pile my plate high with raw crow if the LV do manage to right the ship...

Which of the following possibilities do you think is most likely if the staff remains the same & no "immediate impact" player is signed?

(A) Next year will be about the same as this year.
(B) Next year will be even worse than this year.
(C) Next year will be a huge improvement for the program.

In other words, in risk vs. reward terms, is it riskier to make a change knowing that the results could be worse, or is it riskier to adopt a wait-and-see approach knowing that the program could decline further?

Nikki Caldwell Fargas
:eek:lol: Nikki had success at UCLA. LSU hired her at $700,000 to put the program as a yearly NCAA and SEC contender. She has been a disaster with poor results. If she does not do something this year, LSU may send her and the $700,000 yearly salary riding off into the sunset on her Harley Davidson.

There are several former UT players that have achieved success as players in the WBA and/or went on to coaching assistants: Nikki McCray (#1 assistant at SC) - Kara Lawson (if she desires to coach) or Kelly Jolly Harper at Missouri State. The one person on the current UT staff that must be kept is Kyra Elzy as she is "defense". Kentucky is successful defensively entirely to Elzy. She might be even considered for UT coach. At Kentucky she was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Elzy could turn things around.

As I've been reading these concerns about the LV's and CHW, which are legit. All I keep seeing is your smart mouth comebacks, stupid and corny jokes. You belittle mostly everyone who comments in the forum(that's what forums are for is to discuss). You my friend are a P(Rick). And now you are dismissed.

Katie Meier is an interesting choice that could placate some of the blue hairs around the program.
