Nothing new. He’s been doing that for years. A couple of years ago
I saw him miss 3 attempts ( bumps ) at tackling on the same player
on the same play. It was so bad it was almost comical. I think it was
the Music City Bowl vs Purdue.
I was at the MCB, Purdue went after him and Slaughter repeatedly. If you’re an OC and you don’t go after either one over and over then you should be fired. It’ll be a PI on 3rd and 22 or a TD bc neither can cover for chit and tackling is abysmal

I love listening to Coach Matthews. I almost choked on my sweet tea when he said, "that was a good old-fashioned butt kicking and Tennessee supplied all the butt"

While he never calls out any players by name he made it clear that #5 should see his playing time limited and I mean limited. Also said that our team on the whole has very poor football IQ. Case in point when a fifth yr senior jumped on Mertz's pump fake when Mertz was out of the pocket and allowed Mertz to run for the first down. Said that's football 101--never leave your feet in that circumstance. 2nd case in point the fifth yr senior jumping offsides on the fourth and 1 and ended any hope of a miracle comeback. Hell I remember in pee wee football being told to "hold your water". Milton IMO didn't play badly but lack of any running game in first half and Milton's inability to process situations at game speed limits UT compared to Hooker. Not really fair to compare to Hooker though as don't think fans appreciate the special player we had in Hooker. Similar to Alabama this year comparing their current QBs to Bryce Young.
That’s bad disciple not bad football IQ IMO.

He should have been sat down and play taken away from him the first TD that was scored on him because he refused to wrap up.
Late to the party here but it was way worse than just refusing to wrap up. To me it almost looked like he pulled up and tried NOT to tackle him. I’ve never seen a softer play on a football field in my life. If I were coach he would never see the field again.

Hadden is an embarrassment in every aspect of the db game. He only plays well in run support when his responsibility is containment. His coverage and awareness is suspect at best. I keep watching for the moments of brilliance that the coaches see in him.

His tackling is average. Pass coverage below average due to his simple lack of awareness and his run support is below average unless he is in containment.

Furthermore, he is a headcade that causes unnecessary penalties.
And he trash talks the whole game like he has done something. One of my least favorite UT players ever.

He’s not a first time offender. It’s not just that he’s bad, but his effort is awful. By continuing to play him, you send a bad message to your team. 5 simply doesn’t care. It shows in his play.

Re DBs if what you say is true for FL and GA with no or few PI penalties then why aren’t we teaching / doing same?

Sounds like a coaching issue to me 🤷🏻‍♂️
We did do the same thing against Austin Peay and Virginia, however if we breath to closely to a wr its PI. The same things are not being called. Not blaming officials but jesus christ they are at an all time sh1t level. You can see a better officiated game at the damn middle school level
