LOL At Oregon's Stadium!!

That rinky dink stadium actually holds ~59,500 counting the SRO area on the North side, has been sold out since 1999 and will soon one day be expanded to at least 65k.

And 127.2 decibels is nothing to lightly dismiss. That's louder than a Boeing 747 at take-off--for the best part of three hours in a tight contest since we are on defense more than most.

Why not just come and hear for yourself in 2013?

It's the proximity of the fans to the field that is killer. It sounds as if they are literally on top of you and the sound reverberates from the artificial turf into the canopy and back. The entire stadium is dug into a earthen hillock. There are no energy sapping features like repeated open air tunnels or other gaps. It's a sunken bowl of concrete sunk into the earth that the crowd enters down into from the rim.

When is the expansion project supposed to begin? Phil may as well sling around enough money to make capacity around 80K.

you think we're dumb enough to believe it's that loud all game?

I said for the better part of three hours because our TOP is usually at or near last in the NCAA.

And no, it only gets that loud for that long on every opponent's offensive snap in a game with a big name opponent, not for the New Mexicos of the world.

Personally, I'm just concerned about this coming weekend. Any conversations about Autzen can wait. Autzen will take care of itself.

The design limits of the bowl dictate matching the last expansion, which took the "seated" capacity from around 42k to the current 54k. If the North side is expanded, the SRO is largely gone and another 12k seats ends up with a listed capacity of 66k.

Going higher than that is a major grafting of an upper deck somehow, complete with its own access ramps and whatnot. Maybe someday, but 66k is where we are headed in the next decade.

Been recorded at 127+ db... Thats the loudest any stadium has been recorded. And every game is around that.

Actually, Death Valley has been recorded as a minor earthquake on a seismograph.

Tiger Stadium was the site of the legendary "Earthquake Game" against Auburn in 1988. LSU won the game, 7-6, when quarterback Tommy Hodson completed a game-winning touchdown pass to running back Eddie Fuller in the waning seconds of the game. The crowd reaction registered as a legitimate earthquake on the seismograph in the Louisiana Geological Survey office on campus.

During the October 6, 2007 game against the University of Florida, CBS recorded 130 decibels, thus making it the second loudest collegiate stadium in history, only behind Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington.

i dont think anyone other than the OP is doubting Oregon knows how to play when a seriously loud crowd is cheering for them.

But... do they know how to handle 104,000 cheering against them, with the smell of Jack Daniel's choking every breath they take?

All kidding aside, are you heading to Neyland? I really want to go to Oregon next year.

Yeah, but have they been able to average 115-120+ each game? No... Autzen averages that much every game. And the fact that it has a partial roof over itself, it keeps the noise in the stadium. Just ask Cal and USC. Best (Cals old RB) Said it was the loudest and hardest stadium he had ever played in....

I had tickets, but a cardiac scare with my wife over the summer put them up on stubhub as the trip was canceled over what proved a false alarm.

As for noise, we deal with Husky Stadium every other year as we are their actual primary rival. It's only 72k and chablis fueled there by the lake, but it has some notoriety on the noise front too.

Sorry to hear that. Neyland is a great place to visit and soak up one of the greatest football environments in college footabll!

I've never been to Neyland, but I'd like to visit. I wish I could visit every major collegiate stadium in America actually...

Best's freshman year was '07 so he missed the game in Knoxville. But cal's coach after the game in '06 said there was no way to plans for that. They thought it would be like USC but he guessed wrong

Too bad. You really would have enjoyed a game day experience at Neyland. Glad it was a false alarm. Try again sometime.

Hope to see the Ducks at home some day. Go Vols.

I have to question Tedford's intelligence in that case because USC doesn't have a loud stadium. It's called the Mausoleum for a reason. It's the team that is tough there, not the crowd.

I was hoping to make the trip to Neyland but a business trip conflicted. The renovations look really good and I would love to experience a game there in that atmosphere with what seems to be for the most part classy fans. Hopefully the 2 teams will do another home and home series in the future. Autzen is a great stadium with an awesome game day atmosphere and for the most part classy fans. Yes the average attendance is just under 60K but that is a few thousand more than actually seats and Eugene is a small college town with a population of less than 150K

Looking forward to a good game Saturday!
