Looking towards Georgia

If Missouri wins the turnover battle by a +4 they can win but in a normal game this is a 14+ loss for them IMO. I'm like you we can hope but if they do win that momentum may carry them through the rest of the year, they would be a tough out at home.
Or the next game could be a letdown game

We beat Mizzou @ home & I think we have a good chance of taking care of business with Georgia! I hope to GOD that Georgia's next games before us be hard with no grease!

Georgia has Missouri Ole Piss then come to Neyland. It's possible they can drop 2 of those. Not likely but possible
I’m a UGA fan and you’re right. The next three games are our season. We’ll be favored—sometimes by a lot. But there’s no margin and these games are where the rubber meets the road.

A better chance than against Bama last year? That's the most insane thing I've read this year.

Also, would you people please quit doing this with Georgia? They play down to their comp because they're bored. They will play with their hair on fire and whip Mizzu and likely Tenn. Just stop.

I'm getting ahead of myself here but I'm looking to that Georgia game and thinking we have a better chance of winning that game than we did against Alabama last year. If you look at their schedule, Kentucky and Florida are their only Quasi-talented teams they have played. Florida was a neutral field and Kentucky was a home game. Sure, they curb stomped FL. They also soundly beat KY. But they have had their struggles this year. This isn't the GA of the 2 previous years. Are they a top shelf team this year? Absolutely. Are they the best team in the SEC? Probably. But you don't have to be the best team to win. You just have to be the best team THAT DAY. penalties both against us and not called in our favor have killed a lot of our drives this season. Bad refs are real. Letting teams sub when we didn't sub? WTF is that? saw it again in another game this weekend. If we can clean up the penalties, get anything close to fair calls from the refs, take advantage of the home field, and have solid play on both sides of the ball, we can pull this off. It's all about our secondary. Brock Bowers will determine if we win or not. If he carves us up, it could get ugly. We get GA in 3rd and 10 or more and still give up the 1st down like we've done all season against inferior talent and Neyland gets about half empty by the middle of the 3rd quarter. We've played better defenses and put up enough points to win. We jumped on Alabama in their house. We forgot the game was 4 quarters. They have good coaches who can adjust and then shut us down. If we can take the fight to GA for 4 quarters, we win a nail biter. We have the horses for it.

Edit: I also want to point out that they have played only 1 team with a top 50 defense all season so far and that was FL ranked 34. They have only played 1 top 50 offense all season to date and that was UAB.
You can never evaluate our opponents based on the other teams they have played or how well they played. We have tried to use this justification for why we should beat Florida for 30 years now. The other teams they have played means absolutely nothing when they play us. Same for Georgia. They will bring their A game and give us their best. It is possible for us to win but we will have to be close to perfect.

For some reason we have been able to beat Georgia over the years from time to time when they have been much better than us or were the heavy favorites. Seems like late in Fulmers tenure we beat them a few times as heavy favorites. Also Kiffin’s year and twice with Butch. I have never feared Georgia or felt the same psychological baggage as I do with Florida and Bama. We shoot ourselves in the foot with them every year and it’s always something stupid that causes us to have a meltdown. With Georgia I always feel like we have a shot. Perhaps because I still remember the 90s too much when we always beat them, even when they had talented teams.

Interestingly, since 2000, our record against the Big 3 is about the same. We have 5 wins against Florida, 6 against Alabama and 6 against Georgia.

But since Saban took over at Bama, it’s 4 wins against GA, 2 against Florida and 1 vs Bama. Before last year it was 4-1-0. GA was favored against us for all 4 of those wins and we nearly won again in the Pig Howard fumble game. My point is that we have had more competitive games vs Georgia. Although the Florida games from 2014-2017 were sickening. We should have won all 4 of those.

Well, you said "perhaps I still remember the 90's too much" and I think our record against the Big 3 since the 90's ended (which i cited) supports your theory. If you jump forward a decade and do since 2010, it's 2 wins against Florida, 2 against Georgia and the 1 against Bama, but regardless of whether one hangs their hat on our better record against UGA from 2006-10 or our better record against Bama and UF from 2000-2005, your general point that you think the psychological factor as a fan you cited stems from beating UGA repeatedly in the 90's, is sound.

We dominated Goff & Donnan led UGA. I am a little older and remember the rivalry being pretty even before that. I don't think some of you younger guys realized how special our dominance of them was at that time when Fulmer/Cutcliffe/Manning et al. were doing it. Regardless for purposes of this game, this year, if any history is relevant (and I don't think it particularly is) it would be the more recent history, and more recently, since Smart's first year at UGA in 2016, we've arguably been less competitive with UGA, than the other 2.

Why all the rhetoric? At the end of the day, Georgia wins.

Georgia can be had. They’ve hardly been on the road. Their run game is suspect. Their D line has holes. Their boundary corner is young and inexperienced. And we know Heup is the superior coach. I think this game is a toss up. If the Joe that lowers the boom on defenders when running shows up, get ready to throw more goalposts in the river! I don’t think their D can stop him consistently.

Don’t be fooled…. Georgia is better than you’re thinking they are
My post wasn't to take anything away from GA. They are the 2 time defending national champs. Respect that. But this GA isn't those other 2 teams. They are deep with talent. But they haven't looked like a team that has completely gotten in sync this year. Even their loudest fan, Uncle Lou, admits that. last year they shut down our passing game. That was a tall order. This year, they have to shut down our running game and passing game. They have the talent to do it. But will that talent actually materialize on the field? We walked into Bama and drove it down their throats for the first half of the game. This is where I think the home field plays in. I think we get 4 full quarters out of our team this year.

All I know is that I am a huge Missouri fan this week against Georgia. If they beat Georgia and we beat Missouri then Georgia comes to Knoxville with the SEC East on the line
Too bad the games in Athens. I’d like Mizzou’s chances a lot more if it was home for them

I love the enthusiasm but you aren’t thinking rationally imo. UGA plays to its competitors. Like this week against Missouri. It wouldn’t shock me to see UGA sleep walking as usual for awhile and then taking the game over. It also wouldn’t shock me if they just blew Missouri out of the water.

Our game against them? We are at a sever disadvantage. Frankly UGA looks faster and stronger than Bama does. We are pretty much a one dimensional team. We run really, really good. UGA has the horses to nullify us like they did last year. It will take a miracle game from Milton and a miracle game from our defense for us not to get blown out imo. UGA takes us seriously.
