Looks like Gingrich will soon be in

I thought we were told during the Clinton years it's no ones business what they do in their personal life?

Gingrich will get burned more for his failed government shutdown during the Republican's 1994 attempt to seize control from Clinton.

I agree that it is no one's business. UNLESS, one preaches moral purity while being grossly immoral. It is hypocritical. If you engage in immoral acts, don't give the false image of valuing morals. That's the difference. Clinton never promoted himself as being a beacon of morality. Many that have promoted themselves as such have had many skeletons in the closet revealed that indicate it was merely pandering to folks to get their votes.

We have a winner.

You would have to be pretty young if the first time your heard "it's no one's business" was during the Clinton years. Typically I would agree but where do you draw the line on the shortcomings in the personal life of those running for PUBLIC office....extramarital affairs, drug/accohol abuse....

I never said it was the first time, but yes I probably am one of the younger people in this forum. I am afraid Newt maybe the only one who can beat Barry. If he can make it through the primaries I think he wins.

Want to put a friendly non monetary wager on that?:)

So we have Gingrich, Palin, Trump, and some others who have thrown themselves into the mix. Come on Republicans, I have to think we can do better.

This isn't for 2012, but what to people think about John Kasich or Bobby Jindal for future presidential candidates? I'm asking about Jindal because I've heard people mention him as a possibility, and I'm just wondering what people think about Kasich because he's the current governor of my home state.

Jindal would be my guy, he is my #1 choice and has been for quite a while. He will probably run some day but not 2012.

That is Gringrich vs Obama. Be thinking of the wager and I will too. Nothing corny or stupid. I personally think that there are other Republicans that have a better shot than Gingrich. If the economy turns around, coupled with the Ryan Plan Medicare cuts, Obama wins in a walk (AARP is already in attack mode). If the economy doesn't turn around the Repubs stand a better chance, BUT the votes for the Medicare cuts make the race more interesting than it would have been. Working folks will probably vote their wallets (depending on turn around or no turn around) while seniors and those close to retirement will vote to preserve their Medicare/SS. Still too far out for definitive statements, though.

Ok I will. Who do you think stands a better chance?

Spot on analysis.

This Ryan thing will be the GOP's undoing in the House.

Newt would be infinitely better than Obama but he won't win once the media starts in on him (something they never did to candidate O).

and AARP is becoming a menace. The people leading the charge for them will never have to actually deal with the damage that's being caused right now

Newt is an easy target, what can you say? Thing is, even if it weren't for the media favoring Obama, which I think by and large you are right that they would, Gingrich would inevitably just light himself on fire, anyway.

Its what he does.

My main problem with Newt is seeing him sitting on that couch with Pelosi trying to cram that global warming crap down our throats.

Someone needs to tell Gingrich his political career effectively ended when he had an affair that ended his marriage.......all while criticizing Clinton for doing the same.

huh?

How are they different from any other lobbying group in DC?

well first off most lobbying groups don't rip off their members by selling them annuities.

Possibly, but you leave out the fact that the majority of lobbyists rip off non-members, namely the US taxpayer.

I think that all lobbying is legalized bribery and should be outlawed. But I will not accept the answer that one or another lobbying group is worse/better than any other just because an individual agrees/disagrees with what the lobby wants. They are all rotten, not just a few.
