Looks like Pruitt & UT will have to vacate wins

Without looking, do you remember what games we won in 1955?

How about 1972?

Even 1994?

Sure, you remember the outcome of the Arkansas, Florida, and Syracuse games in '98, because that season sticks out in the memories of all Vol fans who were alive at the time. Kinda makes it easier that we were 13-0 that season, too, heh.

But most seasons, even good, solid seasons, seasons we ended the year in the Top 25, you can't recall the outcomes of most games.

When it comes to history, everyone relies on the history books. And the history books DO vacate the wins. They are lost forever.

I know, that doesn't bother you much, Cherokee. Or BowlBrother, either. I'm not trying to change your mind. We each get to go our own way on this question.

But it does make a difference to the program. Over the long term, a much bigger difference than some lost $$ or scholarships.
I can google the games I don’t remember to remind myself what happened. If I was a USC Trojans fan and I wanted to pull up the results of any games from the “vacated” 2005 season I could do so with relative ease. That’s my point, it just seems like a meaningless punishment. I guess the university takes a black eye but it’s still available out there outside of the NCAA “official history books” for anyone to track down if they’re interested. That’s why I’ve never really understood it.

Some Dawg fan runs into you, and you get talking football, and he's bragging about how the Dawgs are the more successful program, proven by their better win total.

Sure, you could pull out your phone and start trying to google how many vacated wins the Vols originally had, and how many vacated wins the Dawgs once had, and add those numbers back to whatever the numbers currently are...you could do all that. Sure.

By that time the Dawg fan has moved on to bragging to some other fellas over in another corner of the bar.

The record books are what counts. *shrug* I'm just trying to explain to you why it's such a big deal to many of us. But I understand your point of view, as well, and wish you happiness with it. Just explaining it so you can understand.

Go Vols!

Pruitt, Raleigh and Tyndall were the worst coaching hires in Tennessee athletics history.
