"Now I hope that what happened to Tennessee on that touchback is a lesson for every player in the entire country..."

Posting what he said; not expressing it as being right or using it for some sort of point about what happened nor saying I agree or disagree with it

(another anchor later said "the lesson you were talking about is for ball carriers to hold onto the ball firmly.")

Spoken like a guy who watched a chopped up highlight film and has no care whatsoever for the effort displayed throughout the game.

He's not wrong...but he ain't right either.

The lesson should be for the ncaa to change this dumbass rule. I could see if he tried to throw it across from 4 yards out but it was an unintentional fumble and a rule that cost us this one not the effort by Pig. Hell every player in America would do the exact same thing in an OT situation.

"Don't give your all. Hold back a little"

Glad we have the General's maxims and not Lou Holtz's.

Me either, guy was giving his all to try and win. My problem is with the stupid rule that gives the other team the ball off a fumble they didn't even recover. Pig got hosed.

This. To me, there is a difference between the ball going out on the side versus the end. I've watched a lot of football and I don't think I've seen this before.

Listen up, my fellow Vols; These kids, INCLUDING Worley, played their tails off, and gave their all for our beloved Vols. I'm super proud of every one of them! Kudos to hometown boy Jalen Reeves-Maybin for the punt block, and keeping UG to ZERO return yards on returns. That kids is really something special!!!

Ive seen it. We played Alabama a few years back and a fumble through the endzone cost us the game. Words cant describe how pissed I am. More so than last night. That was a damn victory we had snatched away again.

Rule should be ball placed where it came out and loss of downs. Not an effin turnover.

if Pig holds that ball short and we end up losing, all we would hear from everyone is how players need to extend for the goal line and show more effort. Personally, I like players laying it all out there against the #6 team in the country, but that's just me

The rule does seem to be inconsistent. If he fumbled the ball out-of-bounds outside the end zone, the team on offense would retain possession. Maybe we will get another "Tennessee rule".

I am with you. I got no problem with what Pig did. He did everything he could to get that TD. It was just rotten luck! That's all you can really say. Just terrible, rotten luck! I'm proud of our team despite the loss!

Mr. Pig , is one example of how hard we used to play. I was real proud of Pig and I can't blame a kid, who hasn't been in that position before, for trying to win the game. He followed his head coach's example by going for it. Coach Jones went for it 3 times on fourth down, Pig did the same. It was almost the play of the year.

Its considered a touch back. Just like a punt or kick off that goes through the end zone. Had it not been OT it would have been GA ball at the TN 20. Been the rule forever and don't see it changing.

Think back to a 6 -3 game against bammers where Corey Anderson fumbled into the end zone in first quarter....

It might not change but it's a total garbage rule. Anywhere else on the field and the team retains possession where the runner lost control. It's not like a punt or kickoff in that it isn't and shouldn't be a change of possession if the ball is not recovered by the defense. The rule makes zero sense. Honestly I would say this if that call had went against Georgia. You punish players for trying to score. Terrible rule.
