Loudest College Football Stadiums

The loudest rival stadiums I've visted are Auburn, LSU and Tennessee in that order.

Clemson is overrated, I was there for the South Carolina game in 2002 and came away underwhelmed.

i've been to:

Neyland (Tenn/Cal)
Oregon (Oregon/Cal 07 game)
USC (many times, but the cal/usc game in 2004 the sound was defening)
Washington (Cal/UW in 2002 or 03 i forget)
ND (ND/SC game in the late 90s)

and I'd rank them in that order. Interestingly, a lot of Tenn and SC fans say that's among the loudest they remember the stadium. I was less than impressed with oregon considering the pub. It was loud (not as loud as neyland), but half of the stadium was still in the parking lot getting hammered after the second half kickoff.

Not being a homer, but Kyle Field can get plenty loud.

I've been to Baton Rouge, Manhatten Kansas, Waco, the Cotton Bowl, and Austin, but they were not close to what we have here.

I went to the Cal/A&M holiday bowl in 06 and the A&M fans weren't exactly blowing me out of the water. That and most of them left in the 3rd quarter. Best fans in the world? ha ha ha ha ha

(just trying to pis off txvol07)

Its not working, I was trashed at wings and beer joint here. Glad I didnt go watch that pitiful display of football. Cant blame em for bailing out early one bit.

p.s. Cals uniforms were butt ugly.

(not tryig to piss of droski, just pointing out the facts)

ha ha. we were undefeated in those uniforms that year. and i thought A&M fans never left a game early? isn't that the rep?

For home games I would say, very rarely will you see an Ag leave early. Verrrrrrry rarely. The ones that do, hear about it all the way down as they make their exit. I've seen that happen a few times and Aggie on Aggie crime is brutal.

Our rep is more or less the 12th MAN in general.

Crowd noise depends a lot on the game. I was at the UT/UF game that set the attendance record at Neyland when people were smashed in like sardines and the whole stadium was rocking. Recently it seems our fanbase isn't as diehard as in the past though; some people actually get pissed if you make too much noise. Hard to top Death Valley though when it is a night game, their fans are more freaky, loud, and drunk than our aging fans at most games.

not at all. Granted it was a daygame, and they were playing jv squad like Oooo La la university. It got dark around the third quarter but the Tigers really didnt live up to their hype.

Im sure its much better at night, as Ive heard, but I have not been to a ful fledged "night game" there.

My trips to the Swamp in '01 and '03 were ridiculously loud. I was at Tiger Stadium when LSU beat Eli's OM team by one point in 2002 and it was pretty damn loud for that one.

If those were the only two times you've been to The Swamp, can you do me a favor and never go back?

You appear to be some sort of good luck charm. :p

Which is why I didn't bother going this year. Didn't want to kill my record. :lolabove:

UofO has been rolling up a serious amount of hype since then. I was front row for the USC game last season, and couldn't hold a conversation with my friend standing next to me, even though I was screaming in his ear. Ducks fans do talk it up a lot, but it is pretty damned impressive for 55k. Also true on that knock against them. Every home game they've had to run PSA's before half time telling people to get back in the seats by the 2nd half kickoff. Kinda pathetic.

I'm still planning on making Neyland for UofO this year, so hopefully I'll get a good comparison. I'd like to see some of the good ol' anti-Pac-10 sentiment come out, and an overall feeling of a good chance against the Ducks. That's the recipe for good homefield advantage.

I think the reason why Oregon can compete with larger stadiums for sound is that at some point, the fans way up in the nosebleeds don't contribute as much noise due to the distance. The 58k or so that are there are simply louder and crazier than the first 58k at most other schools. Not sure what the cause of that is. Maybe the reputation for being loud feeds on itself.

It's true that, for a few years, getting back to seats after half-time was a problem. But, I think the PSAs and grass roots complaints from fans scolding the late fans has fixed that. I haven't noticed many empty seats at second half kick-off over the last two seasons (and I've been to every home game during that time).

Coincidentally, the quietest stadium I have ever seen is at Cal. It seems like half the audience isn't even watching the game. You could literally play checkers with a flimsy Hoyle board on your lap and never be interrupted.

Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium gets pretty loud. Went to see them play LSU back in 2001. I came away very impressed.

Back before Kelly took over as OC, Dixon wasn't being utilized properly. That wasn't a good season for the Ducks.

There is no doubt in my mind that the loss in 06 at Cal had zero to do with the crowd factor. Don't insult the Cal players of that year by suggesting that lark.
