Loudest College Football Stadiums

ummm dixon himself said the crowd was a major factor.

Interesting. I couldn't find anywhere confirming that. But, I'll take your word for it.

Someone must have put uppers in the wine boxes that day. Since, according to Justin Forsett, "It's the first time Memorial Stadium has been that loud." Probably the last time as well.

I hate to put ya'll through this (not really, ha), but this YouTube video shows some insane noise at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Probably the loudest stadium I've ever been apart of, although I didn't really get to take in the noise, I was too busy tackling anyone in site.

YouTube - Rocky Block Rammer Jammer Tennessee 2009

I cant judge many stadiums as I havent been to many, but even if I had its so hard to do so when there are so many variables on what could have made it louder or crazier that certain day: how good the team is that year, the matchup, the weather, the score, the situation in general, etc. I hope to visit all the SEC stadiums one day. Got a long list to go, but slowly marking them off.

i've been to:

Neyland (Tenn/Cal)
Oregon (Oregon/Cal 07 game)
USC (many times, but the cal/usc game in 2004 the sound was defening)
Washington (Cal/UW in 2002 or 03 i forget)
ND (ND/SC game in the late 90s)

and I'd rank them in that order. Interestingly, a lot of Tenn and SC fans say that's among the loudest they remember the stadium. I was less than impressed with oregon considering the pub. It was loud (not as loud as neyland), but half of the stadium was still in the parking lot getting hammered after the second half kickoff.

That's because at Autzen, they allow the fans to go out to tailgate at the half and then come back in.

I would say it's Neyland and then Autzen. The Ducks are the craziest, loudest, most enthusiastic fans and tailgaters you will find. They have the SEC teams beat hands down. I couldn't believe it.

UofO has been rolling up a serious amount of hype since then. I was front row for the USC game last season, and couldn't hold a conversation with my friend standing next to me, even though I was screaming in his ear. Ducks fans do talk it up a lot, but it is pretty damned impressive for 55k. Also true on that knock against them. Every home game they've had to run PSA's before half time telling people to get back in the seats by the 2nd half kickoff. Kinda pathetic.

I'm still planning on making Neyland for UofO this year, so hopefully I'll get a good comparison. I'd like to see some of the good ol' anti-Pac-10 sentiment come out, and an overall feeling of a good chance against the Ducks. That's the recipe for good homefield advantage.

The Ducks have so much fun tailgating, they almost forget they are playing a football game. That place is so loud, it's hard to believe it's not 100,000 fans.

I have been in many SEC stadiums, so I was quite skeptical of any PAC 10 atmosphere. Those Duck fans blew me away. Don't trash it until you have seen it. And Mizzou, while not impressively loud, are great fans, too.

The SEC outlawed "pass-outs" back in the 90s. UF students would leave just before halftime, run across University Ave to the Purple Porpoise, then come back to the stadium nice and liquored up just before the 2nd half started. Now students tape flasks and ziplock baggies inside their shorts.

Back in the 80s we used to sneak into the stadium the night before the game and tape flasks under our seats.

That's some funny stuff. I guess that wouldn't work too well at Oregon because Autzen is a ways off campus in a residential neighborhood.

Back before UF expanded the north end zone it was pretty easy to jump the fence and get into Florida Field. It wasn't The Swamp back then, and security was non-existant Friday night before gameday.

The best one I've seen at Autzen was a bunch of students snuck a paper meche "Donald Duck" into the stadium. Well it turned out that "Duck" had a tongue that looked more like a "LONG" black hose with a "valve" on the end. Yep, the Duck had a Keg inside. Security got curious about the "line up" at the Duck. When security got to it the Duck was empty. They did toss two students.

For sustained noise throughout a game, LSU, AU and UF are head and shoulders above the rest of the SEC.

I came away unimpressed with my only visit to Clemson. I was there in '02 for the CU-South Carolina game, sitting in the student section. It was a night game and it was freezing outside, but not any louder than a UF game when Kentucky is in town.

I have no problem with UF and LSU in there but AU was underwhelming. Way too much piped in music.

I have a feeling the first season the Vols play remarkably well, it will be the loudest stadium at least in the SEC.

My buddy played WR for Auburn at Neyland in 1999. He said that of all the stadiums he played in that Neyland was the loudest by far and nothing came even close He comments in how he was trying to talk to the player next to him on sudekines and could only see his lips moving. I know that was back when we were good, so I am sure not so much now. But I am confident when we are good, nothing tops Neyland when it's rocking.

Indeed. Our fans are very fickle. It pisses me offf should be loud unless your getting blown the hell out. Always!!!!

YouTube - ‪2004 Tennessee Vols vs Florida final field goal‬‏

This was one of the loudest moments in Neylands History.

We have the ability to be the loudest in the country at moments...but the reason we are not on UF, Auburn, LSU and even Oregon's noise level is because we don't bring it every big game all game.

But if we get back to winning in the next could years I guarantee we will be having some LOUD games.

I can't believe that video has only been watched 76,000 times.

I was in Knoxville for the '98 and '04 UF games, and after UT won the stadium was as loud as I've experienced as a rival fan.

The issue with Neyland is it's rarely consistently loud for 60 minutes, on par with LSU and UF. As a visiting rival fan, LSU is the standard...they bring it at the tailgates 3 hours before the game and don't let up until the game is over.

Yea they do have the best corndogs...

Neyland is like a sleeping bear I just wish we'd wake up from this hibernation. Also I have sat in the covered full seat area and as a whole it's a snoozer section.
