Louisville prepared to lose women's basketball coach Jeff Walz to Tennessee

Walz wouldnt be my top choice just based on personality and questionable recruitment tactics but I'd be thrilled if we got him. I'll be shocked if the AD will shell out that kind of money though.

Honestly not as impressed with Jeff Walz as many of you are. I don't feel like he's been as productive with his teams as he could have been.

He's had UConn and Notre Dame in his way far more than he would have cared to. He also generally hasn't gotten the top 10 players (Dana and Asia aside), but has made the most of what he had...unlike other coaches.

So UT should pay $2 million PLUS for women's bb coach? Just don't see it. How many championships have his teams won? I'm just skeptical.

In all fairness to Walz, he's been to the final four 3 times in 11 seasons not included this season. That's nearly a 30% final four rate. And if Louisville makes the final four this season that would be 4x in 12 seasons (33% final four rate). Louisville lost 2x in the Championship game to UConn. By comparison, Holly has never made a final four during her 7 seasons as head coach despite having more talent. Walz has done more with less. If Walz is getting Tennesee to the final four at a 20-25% rate. His salary won't be a huge issue.

If Holly just made 1 final four, her job would be secure.

Just asking. Additional 5,000 per home game, $20/ticket, 20 games = $2,000,000 per year.

If the $99 special, then minimum of $396,000 per year.

But if they get a coach and win, there won’t be any $99 special, and a good seat will require a donation. 100 and 200 levels are currently $1,000/per seat. Plus parking charges. I’ve been told previous idiotic AD “gave away” concessions’ profits. No idea if that is truth or not; the gave away, not the idiotic. Of that point I have no doubts. Jmo

Attendance has dropped significantly, looked like in 2018 >4,000/game less than in 2011 (2011 NOT Pat’s last season), so an increase of 4,000/game is within reality.

Soooooo, how do you determine payback and what a coach is worth?

Crapshoot I know.

Don't get me wrong. NOT comparing Walz with Warlick. That's a no-brainer. Just not sold on Jeff Walz as the answer for LV team.

I don't know, but I know I mostly grew up in regions far away from Tennessee and it seemed like every athletic middle/high school girl still grew up a fan of the lady Vols and Pat Summit. I think we're still seeing the effects of the brand we established through our recruiting, despite not living up to Tennessee expectations.

Anyway, I think our fans value a dominant lady vols basketball program quite highly. And if we were in charge of allocating percentages of our financial resources to the various sports, money wouldn't stop UT from hiring whoever they wanted to lead the women's team. And I think just about every coach would still kill to have the job. Quite frankly, we tailed off toward the end of Pat's tenure as Holly took more and more control of the program , she should have been cut loose years prior to this.

NOT worth the $$$
So you think Holly is worth the $$$$$ This guy is a good coach. I seen on one of those sites his recruiting budget is like $140,000 a year and Kentucky was around $400,000 so yes we would take this guy to coach the Lady Vols in a minute. Plus i think he was good friends with the AD that got fired when Rick P. got fired. So he is probaly there if the Vols want him.
