Loved The Win But....

#3 is fairly elite if you ask me

Exactly my point. That KU team was not the third best team in the country. Others have stated it but there really isn't a clear cut elite team or group of teams this year. I feel like there are about 8-12 teams in the top tier and what I have seen of KU makes me feel like they are just outside that group.

There will be teams that separate themselves as the year progresses and KU might gel and become one of those top tier teams but they seem to be lacking the level of elite talent that recent KU teams have had.

I definitely agree with this. Vols are very good and are a perennial top 10-20 team under Barnes with periods of being top 5. I think this year is our best chance at a deep NCAAT run.

Well dang, that just means we’re going to lose in the 1st round to West Lincoln State who got in with a losing record by winning the Atlantic Southern conference.

The original poster must have been a psych major ask he/she to analyze the USC game from day before.

Kansas is not an elite team this year. They may end up being top 10 heading into the NCAA tournament but I also won't be surprised if they are closer to 20th and don't win their conference.

They are small in the front court, don't rebound or rim protect well and only have a couple of legit offensive threats from what I have seen. I don't see them making a deep NCAAT run unless Dick explodes in March. Maybe the Vols are just a bad matchup for them and made them look worse than they are. Anybody else feel like this Kansas team is weaker than usual?
And here we go….

Lotta people felt like Kansas was ripe for the picking going into the tournament last year. I certainly didn’t think they deserved a one seed over Tennessee and thought they’d be one of the first high seeds to lose.

We know how that turned out.

You may be corrrect, but they were ranked # 3 in the Nation and we were #22. I will take a 14 point win over the # 3 ranked team very day.

Guy, how about you quit assuming my intent. In my entire history of posting on VN for the past 15-16 years you will not find posts about me bitching over wins or overreacting to losses. I'm not a Barnes hater or a poster that brings up his NCAAT record. He is the best coach we have ever had....period.

So lighten the F up Francis and quit making assumptions....especially your ridiculous one post for each outcome scenario. My post this was a knock on KU not seeming as elite as usual as I was re-watching the game this morning. Last night was mostly me yelling aat the TV and being caught up in the win. Posters like cncchris33, Cardvol and creekerballer seemed to understand my point and were able to have a discussion about it. I don't expect people to agree with me but how about you don't put words in my mouth? K, thx, bye

They should have lost to Wisconsin, too. Wisconsin is no slouch but typical Kansas teams should handle them. I'm not saying they are not a good team....just not a typically elite KU team. It is early in the season but I'm not seeing them as a potential championship team at all.

I agree this might not be the typical elite Kansas team……however it’s early for everyone.

Wisconsin has a really good D…….makes it much harder to “handle” and run away from teams like that.

Kansas has a good D but Wisky is used to playing games like that as well.

Not reading this whole thread so sorry if this is a repeat.
Our offense is horrible. I mean really bad. I hope it can improve but we are a jump shot team it seams. We will lose in the NCAA tournament if we can’t generate inside baskets.

This is shot chart from Kansas game, 53 FGA, 27 from 3, 3 away from rim and 23 at the rim…that’s a really good shot chart which resembles modern basketball. We need to continue to be better/improve from 2, but we did a great job getting looks from 3 (we have good shooters) or getting to the rim.

Winning against Kansas when you commit 24 turnovers is hard to believe. It tells you how well we played in every other area. Barnes hates turnovers worse than anything, so he will get this corrected. I think a lot of it was due to good hands by Kansas, but also just forcing things that are not there. Also, being aware that someone is always close by swatting at the ball. Be stronger and protect that basketball.

I agree but I feel like Olivier and Uros are always going to have a certain amount of turnovers with their hands of stone, dribbling in traffic and overall clumsiness. Vescovi will always be good for a few with how he leaves his feet when he drives, especially under the basket. Sometimes he makes a great play and finds a cutter or an open shooter but other times he gets caught with nowhere to go and throws it up to a defender.

Oh yeah? WTF are you talking about? A lot of people like every season are picking Kansas to win the whole thing. They've got 5*s on the bench. This is a great win for multiple reasons!

Never said it isn't a great win. Why are some people so up in arms about my opinion about KU not being as elite this year? Are you also upset at KenPom?

Show me where I griped about the win. I'm thrilled with it, especially without JJJ playing. I'm just not particularly impressed with KU is all. I wasn't aware that was such a sensitive subject....

Sounds like you're judging them off one loss that we handed them, which seems silly.
It’s roster basics. Look what they lost. Sure, they have talent, but it’s unproven. I agree with the OP, by the time they get through league play they likely won’t be #3. That’s a residual ranking from last year. Either way, it’s a great resume win, but we still played very poorly, turning the ball over like crazy.

This is a garbage post. We have four guys who can light it up from three on any given night, we have a big man who is a threat from deep, we have two other bigs that can offensive rebound and Uros also has a nice baby hook close to the basket. Phillips, Mashack and JJJ can take it to the rim and so can ZZ. Phillips and JJJ have good mid-range shots.

I feel like the only thing we are missing is a second PG. And I don't think we will see many more games like Colorado where we keep jacking up three pointers even though none of them are falling. Barnes seems pretty adamant that we play inside out this year and that is a recipe for success for this team.

We would not beat a typical KU team by double digits with that many turnovers.

Garbage post: we got beat badly by Colorado because we went cold shooting. Juno shooting teams rarely do well in the tournament.
Your opinion is noted though.

Anyone who thinks Ut will win many games where they turn it over 20 times hasn’t watched much basketball. Odd game because KU never seemed able to get any rhythm and take advantage of turnovers.

What have we done since then. It is well noted that Barnes has changed our offensive approach and insisted we play inside out since that game. We have also seen Phillips and Mashack going to the basket more.
