LSU fans getting cocky after Pitt lost to Ga Tech

I'm sure there's some psychological definition. Maybe imposter syndrome? Survivor's guilt? Who knows. I understand it, though. We've definitely gone through our share of pains as a fan base the last 15 years, or so. Now, suddenly, we put a top 5 squad on the field and people's reaction is "well, surely this can't be right, right?" We're so used to playing Kentucky close for bowl eligibility in previous years that the thought of stomping their guts out and completely demoralizing them--which will happen--seems foreign.

We're going to stomp UT Martin
Then we're going to stomp Kentucky
Then we're going to go to Georgia and ruin their hopes for a repeat.
Then we're going to stomp Mizzou
Then we're going to stomp Vandy

Because we're a good team. And that's what good teams do.

I think the term ‘Battered Vol Syndrome’ is a good one. I admit I still suffer from it.

Their starter is back. They weren’t that good and aren’t that good. Lost a ton off an ACC championship team. UT just isn’t as good as many want to believe. Reality checks coming.
It’s an unpopular opinion, but I agree with this.
Still waiting on those reality checks. What happened?

I’ve broken this down a few times before, but I’ll do it again.

- Decent opportunity to take 2 out of 3 from Pitt, Florida, and LSU.
- Almost certain losses to Georgia and Alabama.
- Outside chance of dropping one to Kentucky, Mizzou, or SC.

8 win season, 9 being the ceiling.

Was it correct? No.
Was it a reasonable prediction? Yes
Am I glad it wasn’t correct? Hell yes

Go ahead and get the rest of your chest thumping out of the way. I’m guilty of it from time to time as well. I’m also going to generously assume you predicted a 6-0 record at this point of the season.

I think if we are all honest, no one predicted we would be 6-0. I hoped for it, but I didn't bet any money on it.

Check out this Tiger rant thread:

What they don't acknowledge is Florida still beat a top 10 team and mentally as well emotionally is easily our biggest win since we beat them in 2016.

These are the worst fans in the SEC who have made it their mission to slander Tony V as much as possible all across the internet. I want this win by multiple scores more than you could believe.
Didn’t age well

Some details are different, but I also expected 8-4/9-3. My thoughts were losses to uga and bammer and split LSU/UF/Pitt/UK. Was cautiously optimistic of 9-3.

That said, once the season started I realized UF was not very good this year and so was on record saying we would win that one. I had been confident of Pitt all along. Biggest non bama/uga worry was LSU.

Its funny in retrospect that we smoked LSU and had to work to beat uf and Pitt. :p

I thought UT would go 9-3. Didn't think that was the ceiling though. I didn't hold out a ton of hope for beating Bama or UGA. Their talent appeared overwhelming... then Heupel found what had to have been every weakness Bama had and exploited them.

However, I don't think any prediction that included Pitt as a likely loss or any of those last three as anything but remote chances of losses was "reasonable" even at that time. I expected losses to Bama and UGA plus a split with LSU and UF because of their talent levels.

Agreed. I was hopeful that we could somehow get to 5-0 going into Bama week. Because to me, that meant 9-3 or 10-2 were the possible outcomes.

Shame on me for not believing in Heup, Hooker, and this team more than that. Go Vols.
