LSU is going down hard

People need to let this go. We had an elite coach here with national championship upside/ceiling who was terminated because he lied about a stupid cool out.

We are now coached by a very good coach who does not appear to have the same high ceiling as Pearl but may get lucky and win one.

When Pearl does win one and he will at some point just be happy for him. He would have never left here if he hadn’t been pushed out.

cookout, bbq, lies about a bbq. Whatever it was it is only a problem because the NCAA sucks and decides who gets the bright light shined on them for investigation and who doesn’t.

A lot of favoritism in this post.

Always makes me wonder, what else went on that day/ night. Bc why lie about a BBQ. Pearl prolly railed some college Freshmen and was like dang that might come out. Pearl’s a sleeze bag.
He didn't lie about the BBQ. He lied about Aaron Craft being at said BBQ, at Pearl's house, and then taking a photo with Craft (evidently an impermissible act by the NCAA). When the 'AA questioned him about it, he lied about having the BBQ, then taking the photo, until the NCAA said, "Excuse me while I whip this out..." and produced the photo.

Bam, caught red handed. Regardless, the NCAA's 3 year show cause was WAAAAAY too excessive for him, and he never should've been fired by the University for this anyway. Pretty ridiculous. All that said, what's done is done and I personally still really like Pearl and wish him best of luck unless he's coaching in the SEC. :) I really like CRB and am beyond pleased at how much he's been able to accomplish here, even though there's still the elusive Final Four lingering over our heads as a program. Maybe this is the year.

It’s also absurd how good his recruiting continues to be. I assume he’s still cheating? Otherwise, what recruits/family would go to LSU with so much filth from this whole mess? Honestly, if Wade and LSU get off totally unscathed, it would not surprise me one bit.

I’m with you! I really like Pearl and appreciate what he did in his time here, but...Rick Barnes is our coach and he’s done a pretty damn good job at Tennessee! I forgot about Bruce Pearl when he was selling frozen pizzas to elementary schools, during his show cause.
GBO!!

University fired him because he lied to the administration, who in turn passed the lie to the NCAA. Trust is hard to build and easy to lose. Anybody who lies to the CEO about compliance has to know the risk they're taking.

I’ve been following this story for a long time through friends connected to it. Given the evidence they have, I can’t believe it’s taken this long. The violations are substantial, and LSU did not cooperate. Bye Will Wade.

Source: LSU told of basketball, football violations

Not good for LSU, not good for the SEC. Not good for college sports as a whole.
…take your troll as* elsewhere.
May be a troll. However it seems to me there has been "smoke" over bagged money concerning some football folks, You know "where there is smoke the is usually fire". Bye the way, I am no troll, but this post was in my mind as I opened and started reading this thread and the posts posted before I came to this one.

It would be much worse for college sports as a whole, if high profile, blatant rule breaking went unpunished. That Will Wade cheated has never been in doubt. For 3 years the only question has been whether or not the NCAA would do anything about it.

Bruce Pearl NCAA violation reported by UWM in 2004 – Twin Cities

Pearl lied because he was caught at UWM doing the exact same violation. Most folks thought he could have pulled the George Castanza and said whoops - sorry I didn’t know there was anything wrong with it.

Well, if you're implying or comparing LSU's lack of institutional control to our Pruitt situation, then you're waaaaay off base.

I’m implying that somewhat but I’m also making a broader statement that everyone is cheating (not necessary now with NIL money) or has cheated. And respectfully it’s pathetic to root for another school to get sanctions when we all know Tennessee has probably done similar things. And we’ve had to do it to stay relevant as we should. Don’t be critical against another school for doing what we all know is necessary to survive.

It feels weird, but I root for literally every other SEC team against LSU. Never had anything against them before Will Wade. It's so ridiculous that he's still there.
Agreed. I even pull for Kentucky and Pearl to beat them which makes me feel dirty.

From what I’ve heard— they may have enough evidence for criminal charges on Wade. He did a lot of dumb things, made threats, and got taped some more. His miraculous un-firing a few years ago happened after he threatened to share everything he knew about the football program. As you might imagine, Coach O’s program was beyond the imagination on violations and audacity in type. In LSU’s dreams, they hoped to fire O, get a slap on the hand and for basketball and either negotiate out of Wade, or stumble on with him. Apparently Wade pissed off the “complex cases” department at the NCAA and the FBI. Things just got bad for him.

GoodbyLSU basketball and football at any competitive level for a while! Any credible athletic department would have fired Wade immediately to save their hide…except obviously in Louisana…why should that not be surprising?!?!

Louisiana, #50 in quality of life and 49 in Education(one place ahead of Alabama)

I'm sure UT's nor pure as snow, but I don't think we've been blatant cheaters like, say Alabama. I've always been told that (some) UT football players were told they would be "take care of" after their eligibility had expired.

If I remember the cookout scenario correctly, Croft was not allowed to be off campus while on his official visit, part 1 of the violation. Pearl took a picture of Croft at the cookout, apparently a violation, part 2. When asked about Croft being at the cookout, Pearl said he was not there, part 3. And if I have this part right, Pearl asked Croft and his parents to lie to the NCAA if they were asked about him being at the cookout, part 4. If he had just admitted Croft was there, a slap on the wrist, maybe a few games suspension, some recruiting restrictions, and Bruce most likely would still be coaching at Tennessee. Not to say I would rather have him over Barnes, or vice versa. Just an observation.

IIRC, Croft wasn’t on a visit. He and dad were driving through Knoxville heading back to Ohio from Florida. Spoke on phone with CPB who said we’re having a cookout, why don’t you drop by.
