They didn't win.

I'm not saying he can't coach, but I am saying thigs won't go as well when the entire program rests on him.

Exactly. He had nothing to lose by throwing the kitchen sink at Alabama. This fell into his lap. Sort of like a coach we hired about 6 years ago. I won't say he didn't have them playing well because he did but LSU could have done much better IMO

Maybe the most botched firing to hiring I have ever seen. Ed Orgeron won 10 games at Ole Miss. In three years he had a worse record than Derek Dooley.

He won 4 SEC games this year. That's more than he won in 3 years at Ole Miss.

LSU could have done A LOT better

In my opinion, it's never a good idea to go with the coach that is popular with the players. Doesn't work in the NFL and doesn't work in college.
