I don't understand the meltdown on the LSU forums. I think Coach O has done a great job and justified being considered/hired.

What I disagree with is that Kiffin will take a lateral job and go from Alabamas OC to LSUs OC.

If Herman takes the Texas job the best thing for Houston to do is hire Kiffin.

That's not lateral. Going from Saban to Orgeron would be moving down - big time. There is no way a coach with any ambition of landing a head coaching job of his own would do that.

But would Kiff leave for Asst Head Coach/OC?

In my opinion, it's never a good idea to go with the coach that is popular with the players. Doesn't work in the NFL and doesn't work in college.

That's honestly why I'm not a huge fan of going the whole the middle-of-the-year interim tag route to begin with, unless there's some emergency where you have to fire your coach (or he leaves for another job) way too close to the season for you to preform the type of search you realistically need to hire a candidate of your program's level.

The likelihood that someone else on your coaching staff is actually a "diamond in the rough" is fairly minimal (and in all honesty, you're also risking that the decision being made become tougher with regard to fan/player pressure or backlash in response to letting the guy go for the actual hire).

Without going into extreme detail what were his numbers/demands?

Anyone know?

Jimbo was $7.5+ per year plus other stuff, and the other stuff kept coming. It was more or less $80-90m over 10 years This is before FSU even had a chance to get involved, so those numbers were not a given. Herman wanted close to $6.5m and LSU left that one sitting as he doesn't have the resume for it yet and that is before Texas had a chance to enter the picture.

The Jimbo package is more or less $130-160m for coaches over 10 years and that wasn't happening. A gamble on Herman could have worked but not starting out with him saying he wants $6-7m and that is before Texas had a change to get in.

**** I would of gave Herman 6 mill

It's only about a million more then you would like to pay him

The price tag really wasn't set.... that is what he was asking for last night as Texas was about to enter the mix.

I thought the rumor was Herman was going to LSU?

This is a different one. :) Herman and Aranda are friends dating back to college roommates...and Texas still has their checkbook out.

I mentioned there is a bad scenario last night... many people picked up on today. Regardless, if someone doesn't want to coach at LSU they should leave. With that said, Aranda is highly paid at LSU at $1.3m, but if someone has deeper pockets of course its always a possibility. I would not be surprised by Aranda getting a raise and extension... but if someone wants to throw crazy money at him... not much anyone can do about that. I keep hearing about the deep pockets -- why has Texas waited this long to hire even more expensive guys?

You either want to coach at LSU or you don't.

We've been there. Ask your new coach. :)

Ed O is back! Good decision by LSU IMO.

Funny comment after the presser..."LSU fans are happy they finally have a coach that doesn't have an accent." LOL

A failure by the AD not to give Greg Schiano a look.

Herman was never going to LSU for any amount. He's a prodigy of Urban, he's going to take the highest paying job in the weakest conference for the easiest playoff path which is Texas.

Jerry Stovall probably... hopefully it doesn't end up with the same results. :) Mostly, Yankees since then.

That's exactly the type of move that Saban advised Kirby Smart not to make when UGA the money at him to be the DC.
