Who knows exactly what we need. For teams on the bubble it's always a bit of a guessing game. I think to be safe, we have to win two games in the SEC tourney. Anything less than that and we are no lock to make the field. That being said, the fact that the committee places a lot of emphasis on the last ten games and at worst we'll be 8-2 in those games does help us.
The fact that we lost to Georgia twice tells me Tennessee isn't consistent enough to win the SEC tourney.
UT was consistent enough to beat Florida, Missouri, and curbstomp Kentucky.
UT is just a bad matchup with UGA. There's about seven teams that can win the SEC tourney
This is exactly how I see it. We are essentially in a playoff with bama. We win the first game and the winner of the bama ut game gets in. And that is about as fair as you can expect. To have a chance to win your way in vs another bubble team.I honestly think we got kind of a bad break playing Alabama second (if we get through the first round). They are a team we are trying to edge out for one of the last spots. It would be hard to put us in over AL if they beat us 2/3 and have a better conference record and better overall record. I agree our OOC is better, but can you honestly see the committee taking the loser of that game?
Tennessee is in a very precarious situation. Sure, all Tennessee has do to is keep winning, but to think they'll get to Sunday is a pipe dream. If Tennessee loses the first game in the SECT, 19-12 and the decrease in RPI to go along with it..Tennessee is out. If Tennessee wins one and loses one, still 20-12, RPI doesn't change much from where it is now and it's still verrry close.
That's just Tennessee....one or two conference tourney champ upsets in the smaller conferences can hurt Tennessee badly by taking one of those last spots.
I think Tennessee's poor performances early in the season create a "have to win" situation at the end...and they did well beating some good teams. The last Georgia loss is what is keeping us on the bubble.
We will all be crossing fingers on Sunday after the tourney.
Consistent enough at home...sure. The SECT although in Nashville has never been much of a home court like advantage for the Vols...ever.
My concern is Tennessee's lack of scoring, especially at the beginning. Teams are always thrown off by the open atmosphere of the courts at the SECT. Hopefully, the combination of a different atmosphere and their lack of scoring won't put them in a hole they can't get out of.
And make no mistake, there will be more KY fans rooting against TN than there will be TN fans in attendance in Nashville.
