Amdre 300 isn't even the best rapper in OutKast.

Eminem? Really?

Em is great at times, I have listened to his new CD probably 5 times...every soing has the same content, the same style, the same delivery.

He could never make a song like "Little Weapon".

Everybodies favorite white rapper is one of the best going but he is vastly overrated, mostly because of his race.

When he stops talking sh&it about his wife and mom and stops taking shots at pastries like Mariah and Nick Cannon/Benzino and any other non-existant talent let me know.

The only people who think Em is better are white kids who don't know better.

Not mad, just think his opinion on the mater is worthless seeing as he he thinks 50 Cent is great.

I would like for someone to actually try and make a case as to why he isn't the best.

The names you guys are throwing out you could make a case ( Jay-Z, Nas, EM ) others are real head-scratchers ( T.I., Kanye, Andre 3000 ).

Yet instead of saying why they are better, you just get a name.

lol at the guy saying Kanye is a better rapper. That is comical. Jay-Z has not been on Lupe's level recently. Eminem is certainly not as versatile as Lupe.

This coming from a guy who thought 50 Cent was one of the best ever.

Numbers don't lie. Kanye is the best rapper alive imo with jay-z a close second. Lupe is good but i prefer a lot of other artists over him.

By numbers, I assume you are talking about record sales.

By that logic, N'SYNC and The Backstreet Boys are two of the best groups of all-time.

Like I said before, Kanye IS great but it is a combination of his production, rapping, and originality. From just a pure rapping standpoint, he is average.

And as far as numbers go, if you want to be correct, Eminem is the number one selling rap artist of all-time.

Not that record sales mean anything when talking about actual skill as pointed out in my prior example.

He also thought 50 was the best rapper from Queens, of course he couldn't name another rapper from Queens.

Hell, I would take Ron Artest over 50.

Again I know rappers from Queens. I just enjoy listening to 50 more than any of them except maybe LL Cool J. We just have different criteria for judging an artist is all.

Guys, its an opinion, not a fact question. Relax. That said, here's my top5 that are alive, in no particular order: Lupe, Em, Nas, Jay, 3000.
Deceased: Pun, BigL, Pac, ect.

What is your crieria?

I will state mine.

Originality-Does the artist just follow trends or does he make his own way?

Content-Is he talking about girls, cars and jewlery in every song or does he make an attempt to cover an array of subjects?

Flow-Is it the same ( see Ludacris ) on virtually every song? Or does he explore different methods to deliver his message?

Production-Now this is tricky cause most rappers just pick out the beat but still yet, is the artist picking the average run-of-the-mill radio friendly music or does he try to branch out?

Influence-Again, this is tricky cause if a guy has success, others will copy the mold and follow suit just to make a buck.

Now some artist will stack up nicely in some categories when compared to Lupe. Say, Kanye's production/originality, but Lupe blows him away in content/flow.

At the end of the day Lupe is making the best hip-hop/rap music out today.

I generally just go by style, delivery, and use of beats. A beat and a hook can make a song quicker than anything these days. I don't place anything in lyrical content unless the subject is absolutely ridiculous. The use of metaphors is big for me too.

It's like a song to song thing for me. Every artist makes songs that I just don't care for including Kanye. Like I said Lupe is good, but I enjoy a lot of other artists more.
