Rick Ross is the best rapper alive......LMAO. Also, funny that noone's mentioned ole lazy eye Weezy. He's a fraud anyway. Also an addict.

I enjoy listening to Ross but he isn't the best. I am also shocked nobody has mention Wayne but I'm glad. I like him and think he's a good artist but he's overrated.

Guys like Ross, Wayne and kanye are prime examples of just what studio crews are worth. The three of them are all godawful rappers.

I just don't understand where the "great lyrics" comments always come from with Lupe. Is he good? Sure. Is it nice to hear him diversify topics away from the usual stock in trade of rap? Absolutely, but I just don't get blown away by his lyrics. Like the song that was linked earlier, the writing is fine but nothing to get worked up about.

All of its subjective anyway, some people hear the background and marvel at the genius of it. I hear that he sampled a song that I thought was crap to begin with. Then I play someone a song I think is far superior to anything like this with a live jazz band as the backing and they "just can't get into it". Completely baffles me.

Agreed. Wayne's obviously popular, although I don't like him. Kanye- no denying his skills. Ross is just what he is. You get what you see. (Overweight former prison guard who thinks he's a mob boss)

Go listen to "Dumb It Down" and see if you can even understand what he is saying...good luck.

Also, see "Little Weapon".

I generally just go by style, delivery, and use of beats. A beat and a hook can make a song quicker than anything these days. I don't place anything in lyrical content unless the subject is absolutely ridiculous. The use of metaphors is big for me too.

It's like a song to song thing for me. Every artist makes songs that I just don't care for including Kanye. Like I said Lupe is good, but I enjoy a lot of other artists more.

Metaphors are so way overused in rap today, it's pathetic.

All Wayne does is use metaphors, the repetitiveness is mind-numbing.

Lyrical content and delivery are the main criteria in judging a rappers greatness.

By the sound of it, you just lke what comes on the radio, which is alright by me.

Guys like Lupe, Nas, Immortal Technique are just doing things on a different level...everyone else can just hope to be as good.

Music is all a matter of personal opinion, what one person thinks sounds great is awful to someone else. To try to decide a "best rapper of all time" would be impossible. I'll keep listening to what I like and if someone else likes wayne or 50 cent I don't have a problem with it.

Lyrical content definitely isn't the main thing in judging an artist imo. The last part is just a matter of opinion. Those guys are just doing something different. That doesn't make them any better or worse than the next artist.

Not mad, just think his opinion on the mater is worthless seeing as he he thinks 50 Cent is great.

I would like for someone to actually try and make a case as to why he isn't the best.

The names you guys are throwing out you could make a case ( Jay-Z, Nas, EM ) others are real head-scratchers ( T.I., Kanye, Andre 3000 ).

Yet instead of saying why they are better, you just get a name.

I wouldn't say 3000 is a head scratcher... Outkast is the greatest duo ever and I can see where some people could make an argument for either as soloists...

They just don't put out a lot individually to concrete their names in the "greatest ever" category. But their creativity, delivery, content, flow and beats are second to none. Especially to a few of the names brought up in this thread.

All that being said, Lupe is the greatest right now. Nas is the greatest of all time.

Peace :peace2:

If you've heard one Immortal Technique song, you've heard them all. Always the same political conspiracy mumble.

I do like "Dumb" quite a bit, one of his better efforts that I've heard. Don't think "Little Weapon" is quite as good though.

Again, I'm not saying he isn't good, but if I'm gonna focus on lyrics then I'll throw in anything from Del or Aceyalone, and probably a handfull of others, first.

You could say that about a number of people...same song different verse...but from a pure lyrical standpoint, not many are on his level.

I love Outkast and you know this...as a group they are untouchable in the rap world, as solo artists they are great as well.

Andre, however is not and will never be an elite emcee, that isn't how he is and that is ok.
