LVFLs in WNBA games today

the media is to blame for outsiders being suprised by jordan. she was a top college player at TN and never got the attention she deserved bc she was at TN. but guess what? the WNBA only wants the best on the floor. college media coverage doesn't mean squat. want evidence? look at all the UCONN players who dominated the media (with ESPN leading the charge) while in school only to be a nonfactor in the pros.

Horston is improving each game. Today she got first double double 13pts- 14 Rebound. While Mercedes game is going down. I feel bad for Evina ..her playing time is 3mts and scored 2pts. I always wonder if she had stayed with vols.

Jordy is doing so well and I'm so happy for her. But do we have to play media victim constantly (and inaccurately) to be proud? Jordy was far from lacking media attention and praise at TN. The media and coaches voted her all SEC twice and honorable mention All American. She was the subject of a ton of nice interviews, articles, etc. In fact, the media pegged her to be drafted much higher than the WNBA coaches chose to do. She landed in a great spot and is doing the work and showing the results. She doesn't need retro invented butt hurt!

TN fans are not the only ones who do this and by far not the worst. Boston is tearing the WNBA up, and 99% of the tweets about her claim she was doubted as a college player and her success in the league is pay back! Has any college athlete EVER been as widely deified as Boston in the NCAA? IMO it's an insult to not just enjoy these players' success w/o inventing victimhood for them.

UConn players non factors in the pros? WTF? 15, yes 15 of them made opening day WNBA rosters. Stewie, Collier, even the elderly Taursi (barf) and many others are definitely factors. Their rookie Dorka, who truly got zero media love, is doing very well.

i would also say mercedes, rae, izzy, glory, and diamond got screwed with media coverage too. but, they are all playing in the WNBA right now.
No, they're not. Glory hasn't played in the W in several years. Rae was on the Sparks roster last season, got waived this year, briefly picked up on hardship but is gone again. Rennia Davis has never caught on. Diamond and Izzy are both out indefinitely w serious injuries. Currently the only LV players in the league are CP, Mercedes, and Jordan. CP is obviously headed to retirment and Mercedes, after several good yrs in Seattle, is seeing her mins diminished. Depending on how Izzy and DD are able to come back and whether Rickea translates to the W (as she's highly likely to do), JH may be carrying the banner almost alone next year. So I'd be careful throwing around "nonfactor in the W" comments.

All-star games are a popularity contest in most cases the ones who deserve to be there are sitting at home in all sports.

In this case, the early returns are a very good representation of who is playing well enough early to deserve to be an all-star based on talent -- as well as being popular.

But yeah, all-star teams always have a few players on there who aren't having great seasons but who have large fan bases. For i stance, I am voting for Jordan Horston. Is a fresh rookie with only a few games under her belt, only 2 as a starter, truly deserving of my vote? Of course not. But I love the kid and her heart and I am 100% positive a place on the all-stars would be something she would cherish so much and be a genuinely meaningful experience for her so, yeah, she's on my ballot. Right now Candace Parker is playing good, but not great, basketball. But she'll have my vote, too, because, well, I can vote for her if I want to! 😝

What I personally choose never to do, though, is vote for players who aren't even playing because they are injured, or those who barely get in games at all, even if they are LVFLs.

But if the "early results" group were to be named the next Olympic team, they'd definitely win Gold.

Sorry! Two things that trigger me right now are the constant need for victimhood, which demeans real victimhood, and the total disregard for facts. And get off my lawn!
i was not playing the victim. i was simply saying TN players always get dogged by the media and that is a FACT to "bring around here." we can disagree about UCONN's players. i don't think of any them, aside from Stewie, is as big as a star in the pros as the media tried to make them be during their college careers. taurasi has an entire career to show her worth. the others mentioned are meh in my opinion. moreover, taking this so far to say my post "demeans real victimhood" simply b/c i said TN players don't get real media love is a bridge way too far. come on now.

we all have opinions. those are mine. doesn't matter to me or make me not like you as a poster. carry on.

Candace better retire after this season or else she'll be on bench... The game is leaving her body.

Candace joined this team knowing that she was going to be the 4th option in most regular season games.

I think she is managing her workload to stay healthy and be sharp for the playoffs. She wants to go out with a ring and she will be a major X factor in the playoffs.
