Mac McClung

That is an adequate rewording of your original statement, which read...

Had you said, "If the staff wanted him BAD ENOUGH they’d take him now, not ask him to wait", I'd have never mentioned it. In fact, I'd have agreed with it.
Then apologies, guess I thought it was kind of assumed...there’s lots of guys I’m sure Tennessee staff would “want” to a degree, can’t take them all or make room for them all.

But yes, if the staff wanted him bad enough they’d make room.

My wife graduated from Gate City in 2010. According to her his mother is a PE teacher at GC and his dad is a probation officer. I dont think they are that well off. If they are its because of Patrick Ewing LOL

I read that his dad is “the” District Attorney in that county, which is a huge difference than a probation officer. Probably not high class living in a small county, but that’s not being poor.

Edit: he became a juvenile court judge a couple of years ago.

No TY

He shoots the ball a TON, and at 39%.

Tennessee already has, and will have much better options. The last thing Tennessee needs is a ball hog shooting less than 40%.

Put it this way. He had about the same minutes as Vescovi.....and shot the ball over 100 more times than Vescovi.

Anyone that doesnt want this guy is a damn idiot

Why? There aren’t unlimited roster spots, he’s not a graduate transfer, and we are already very deep at guard. We are already talking about it being a little tricky to find many minutes for Bailey next season, yet statistically he’s much more efficient than McClung and known as a much better defender as well.

I have to agree. If a spot opens up and he is a for-sure sit out transfer, then it becomes slightly more appealing, but outside of his 'name' and flash, his actual production isn't all that impressive from an efficiency standpoint. I'm sure Barnes could coach the best out of him if he's willing to work harder than he ever has and be coachable, but we presently just don't have the team makeup and scholarship availability for it to make sense to pursue him.

If people want a ball hog 39%er more power to you.

I’m fine with someone shooting 39% and even less.....but maybe not if their going to shoot the ball every two minutes.

Not to mention Tennessee has a ton of guards and have been gaining much better prospects.

Don’t let 15 points fool you. If you shoot the ball every two minutes......your going to score. He’s a fine player, but nothing shows he would be something Tennessee needs....in my opinion.

Yep. If you're going to take shots away from Vescovi and the 5 star trio, you had better shoot well above 32% from 3.

Judging by his message about leaving Georgetown and thanking God in the first line, I was dead wrong about assuming him not to be religious. We good to go 🙏
Are we really going to go the "if he's not Christian we dont want him here" route going forward for everyone? Seems a little....odd.

I just don’t see what you see in him. His career 3 point percentage is 29.5%. I see a shorter, less athletic Jordan Bowden at best. He only scored a lot at Georgetown because he shot a lot. And missed a lot.
I would bet my savings account he will have a better season statistically the next season he plays than Bowden did this previous season.

Great example considering folks spent all year asking wtf was wrong with Bowden and trying to bench him...however let’s see where he ends up and what that bank account says and I might still take you up on it?

Probably, but Bowden played D. Bowden was also really good the year before with playmaking PG's. The offense broke when Turner went down and McClung can't save that.

Of all years to have McClung fall into TN's lap, this might be the worst one possible. I wish that he could redshirt without taking a TN scholarship spot in 2020-21 and be available in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Sounding like the McClung ship has probably sailed.

It ain’t about who you don’t take it’s about who you do take

Pass

Elston Turner says hello. That was a huge mistake letting him go to Ole Miss in 1977. Even after adding Bertelkamp in 1976. But 1977-78 was the transition year with Wettig as the interim coach.

Sure would have helped to have kept John Johnson in Knoxville instead of him leaving for Maryland. The kid from Maryville that went to Florida and Kent Hollenbeck (sp?) to Kentucky were other bad misses. But McClung is a different story with KJ, JJJ, SV, JS, VB, and ticket already here.
