Do you not remember the courting of Saban by Alabama? That played out nearly identical to this except in the end Saban didn't jump this time.
A HOF coach that's lost most of the fanbase and is way past his prime being forced out (sound familiar?) isn't that outlandish. Add in the fact that it's, by far, the best job in the countryand Saban is known as more of a 'builder' rather than a 'maintainer', well it almost seemed like a match made in heaven. Almost.
Saban was Bama's third or fourth choice that year. Remember Rich Rod strung them along before finally backing out. Saban was their last ditch effort to get someone of any significance. And again, when the rumors started it was a matter of 2 or 3 days. This "Saban to Texas" nonsense has been going on all season with "insiders" just throwing gas on the fire.
Not surprised. Brown will come out more fired up next yr, and may surprise folks. And he may just ride into the sunset after next year. TX fans will still go to games and UTX will still crap money. They'll just approach it better next yr, and Sexton will be there dangling it under bamas nose...again.

Why would next year be any different? If Texas actually thought they had a realistic chance of signing Saban, do you think there is any chance Mack Brown would still be their coach?
I never said saban would leave next year all I said was that it would be dangled again under bamas nose to get more money. R u as confident as u were that Brown was leaving that that won't happen??

From what's being reported, Saban's signed for what Bama offered before the hub bub about Brown being let go picked up. It's not appearing that a hypothetical offer moved the rate up.
NCAAF After repeated denials, Saban takes Bama job - ESPN
Alabama was all over Saban for a month and a half before he finally said yes. He was not their "3rd or 4th choice". They were after Rich Rod hard before they knew Saban had interest.
