You went from Bama players being in on their games to filling out brackets. IDGAF if players or coaches fill out brackets or play fantasy football (BTW they can, they just can’t pay $ to enter said bracket or league). You stated the Bama program needs to be investigated for THIS ordeal currently plaguing them and bemoaned how they’ll likely get off without penalty. That’s the only thing I’m addressing and I personally see no way this involves anyone beyond Coach Bo.I’m talking about the feds and the AA. This gambling will be a mess for all schools. I’m sure we are guilty as well. No way we didn’t have staffers not play a bracket
Gateway gambling. Concern is getting a taste of it from pro and want more upside. Or, more likely, lose a lot of money by getting overextended in pro gambling and then try to cover losses in college where they have some measure of influence (either indirectly through friends or direct).I'm not a huge gambling fan, kinda goes with being a Baptist pastor, but I don't see how betting on other professional sports affects a college player. I do understand college sports because you could use your influence to change a game through a friend or another athlete. The only thing I reckon with professional sports is they are just trying to stay as far away from any view of influence or making sure there is no gambling as possible.
Before in was legal in so many places, the biggest concern was exposure to criminal element. Today there is gambling without the fear of coersion or extortion. It's also harder to get overextended when gambling apps require payment up front. No gambling app is going to give you the choice of throwing a game or getting your legs broken.Gateway gambling. Agreed but thats my point about getting a taste for it via legitimate means and then turning to bookies/criminal element for larger bets. The potential is there for going off the rails. Before in was legal in so many places, the biggest concern was exposure to criminal element. It’s still worth investigating. Just like the IOWA case. You might find out players did in fact bet on their own games. Where there is smoke there is fire. But you go on defending the all mighty Bama and fly their flagYou went from Bama players being in on their games to filling out brackets. They upgraded in 2016, thanks to football money. Sewell-Thomas Stadium
