Major baseball problems at Alabama

I think it is combined with the lawsuit and the betting. They are trying to show the NCAA they are doing the right thing. ;) Plus he is not winning so they can fire him easily. God forbid if a player had a gun or something.

Bama is 31-15 and 10-12 in the SEC. Not great but certainly better than “not winning.” The Vols are 31-14 and 11-10. Very comparable.

Alabama Hot Board: Candidates to watch
COACHES CORNER Kendall Rogers - May 4, 2023

Cliff Godwin, East Carolina

Justin Haire, Campbell

Dan Heefner, Dallas Baptist

Dan McDonnell, Louisville

Chris Pollard, Duke

Tom Walter, Wake Forest

Rob Vaughn, Maryland

Campbell's coach is due for a big gig.........

This is not football. Tough to win big at Bama in baseball. Easier to win a Natty at Coastal Carolina then at Bama. Other than coming to the SEC, would it really be a step up for these guys.?

he's done a great job at Dallas Baptist. Someone like him, Goodwin or Haire, may prefer the comfort of being really good at a mid-major and not getting into the dogfight of the SEC.
It would be hard for me to walk away from a place like DBU or even Grand Canyon, to take an SEC job.
But at the same time, the competitor inside would probably win out and I’d be getting my butt handed to me in the SEC.😁

If it ever comes out that it was just a rogue friend, making these bets unknowingly to Bohannon, what a lawsuit there’s going to be

I think people are caught up in this incident and not in his record in SEC play. He gave them a reason. If you are winning at .345 in the SEC…you better know who you’re talking to on the phone.

Should that lawsuit come…his career will already be over and the kids he and his staff recruited will be gone. Heck, his career is over yesterday.

According to a report, Brad Bohannon contacted a former high school baseball coach to place the bet on the Alabama-LSU game.

The man who former Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon contacted about a controversial wager with BetMGM Sportsbook at the Cincinnati Reds' home ballpark last week was a former high school baseball coach, according to Darren Rovell of Action Sports.

According to Rovell's report, Bohannon was on the phone with the former coach when the decision to scratch Alabama sophomore Luke Holman was made against LSU on April 28. Holman who was leading the team in strikeouts and ERA was held out due to a back injury the team said. Reliever Hagan Banks got the start in Holman's place and gave up four earned runs on three hits in three innings en route to an 8-6 loss.

Bohannon was fired by the university on Thursday after the 'suspiciously' large cash wager was flagged by the U.S. Integrity — an independent firm focused on monitoring insider information in betting markets.

ugh, I hate Darren Rovell but if this is true good for him for breaking the case I guess

Fired Alabama Baseball Coach Was on Phone With Former High School Coach Who Placed ‘Suspicious’ Bets, Sources Say

highlights:
Moneyline closed at LSU -245
The former coach placed a Moneyline bet and a parlay that included the game.
Online bets are normally limited to $500 on college baseball but this would not apply at in-person, cash books.

Think think think
Who would an Alabama coach know, was a former high school coach, likes to gamble and goes to casinos frequently,. (I'm not sure he coached baseball though)

Kendall Rogers added a fascinating name to Alabama hot board:

Troy Tulowitzki

Here’s another very intriguing name to watch in the Alabama coaching search. Tulowitzki, the former standout big leaguer, did a terrific job in his two seasons at Texas. He helped engineer a premier defensive team in 2021 before the Longhorns formed into a premier offense in 2022. Tulowitzki was offered the job at USC, but chose not to head out West last summer. Tulowitzki has been consulting for various power programs over the last few months, and he also completed his degree, which was deemed essential as someone going after big-time coaching jobs. Tulowitzki doesn’t have Alabama ties, but he’s someone who would do very well in the Transfer Portal, and would have a hard-nosed culture in Tuscaloosa. Tulowitzki will have head coaching options this summer. Might it be Alabama?

Tulo is not just a pro guy as he does have actual college coaching experience.
Would open Texas to recruiting
Would be fascinating option in transfers

I think Alabama would be best served getting an energetic, proven assistant coach than a head coach.

Mid major baseball coaches are different than P5 schools. Many of thsis mid majors have found that baseball is the schools best route to notoriety. Coastal Carolina, ECU, DBU, GSU, Liberty would be better able to match P5 offers and also guarantee actual security.

They should look at the staff at Grand Canyon, no I’m not joking.
