When has Coach Martin brought us a top 20 class? He hasnt, the last ranked class we had was back in 2010 and it was ranked number 9. If we want to get back to where we was at under Pearl it all starts with recruiting. In the 6 years he was here he landed 3 top 10 classes. The number 6 ranked class in 2006, 7th ranked in 2008, and the 9th ranked class in 2010. Under Pearl he made our basketball program revelant again and took us places we had never been before his arrival. From his first season in 05-06 until his last in 10-11 TN went 145-61 with 6 trips out of our 19 total to the NCAA tournament. In 2008 he brought us our first outright regular season SEC championship in 41 years. That same season, although very short lived, he took us to our first number 1 ranking ever as a program. Coach Martin has my full support but so far his tenure has been less than impressive. This year we will find out if the man can truly coach a team to its full potential or not. His recruiting has been average at best and is still yet to be seen if he can land top players/classes with any consistency or not. I think we all can agree that its hard seeing the basketball program take a step back knowing where it was at and what it can be with the right coach.
I think you're a little off base with your recruiting comments. Volbeast is likely referring to this 2014 class which by ESPN is currently ranked 11, and still has the strong possibility of adding Looney. As for his recruiting being average at best, I'm guessing if you did the research you'd find it's better better than the "average" NCAAor SEC team. Finally, Martin has truly had 2 classes, the 2012 & 2013 classes. He landed a 5* in both classes, not sure how much more consistent he can get than that.
As for his tenure so far being "less than impressive" if you ask an unbiased educated person, they'll tell you he's done a better than expected job.
