Making the Tourney is NOT enough

Seems like some people are setting expectations purposely over the top knowing reaching them is unlikely....thus giving them something to b!tch about.

Agreed. But some are tempering expectations too. IMO Anyone thinking a first round exit is a good goal is crazy, same for the people screaming final 4 or bust. This team does have sweet sixteen talent, baring injuries, but not getting there shouldn't result in Martin being fired. IMO

Predictions either way, really depend on Barton. If he can get the ball up under pressure, play d, and knock down open 3's the sky may very well be the limit. If he can't do those things, a first round exit is very possible. IMO

Like I've said a thousand times, there's too many factors to just cut and dry let a NCAA result decide whether this season was a success or not.

If Tennessee goes 26-5, is ranked top 15 the whole year, wins the SECT, gets a 4 seed and is upset in round 1...will I call the season a failure and call for Martin's head, not hardly.

To me I will put A LOT more weight on what they do over 31 games than what they do over just a couple games in a setting our coach has no experience in.

Read my post previous to the one you quoted in this thread, I said the same thing. I just feel like some people are outrageous in their final 4 or bust claims, just like the people saying making the tourney is a success. Somewhere in between, again baring injuries, should be the goal. IMO But reaching the tourney and losing first round shouldn't result in Martin's firing. Not considering how quickly he has gotten us semi valid again. I and I'm pretty sure most people thought we were gonna be bad for 5 years, at least. Overachieving his first year might have been the worst thing for him, expectation wise. Also as I've said, if we stay injury free and somehow miss the tourney, we might have a problem.

Who's said that a first round exit is a good goal? Not trying to be a douche but I haven't seen anyone say that

vol fans always have high expectations. Just look at the Football board. Someone started a thread about UT beating Alabama.

Wow, this was a dumpster fire.

Hey guys, if we have a good regular season, get screwed in seeding and stuck in the 8/9 game, and lose to a 1 seed in the second round, fahr Konzo.

Is it really fair to put it all on Barton?
The pressure is on the Cuonz.
Can he get his team to perform as well outside TBA as they do inside?
If he can, the sky is the limit with some luck and some breaks.

This year I will be very disappointed if we make the tourney and bail out in the first round.....I will be happy with a sweet sixteen trip or more.

That being said.....it looks like Zo is going to meet what I want from tenn coach......make the tourney and have a top 20 recruiting class.

Glad to see you're jumping on board, plenty of room left.

I'm not on board or off.....I'm a prove it kind of fan.....I will be happy if he consistently does those two things.....my biggest fear is if ZO turns out to be like Devoe and ends up doing just enough not to be fired for about ten years.

I don't have a certain expectation of this team that can be quantified but I'll know success when I see it. (If that makes sense)

Bottom line is that you have to make the tourney. You do that consistently and you'll make a run eventually.

I didn't say it's all on Barton, the pressure is on Martin. But a lot of our success hinges on Barton. Thompson probably isn't physically ready yet, and if Jordy, Josh, or Armani has to bring the ball up we will have a problem. If Barton can do the things we hope, we could be a very dangerous team. The huge X factor is Maymon, if he is truly healthy he is huge in breaking full court pressure. Probably our best ball handler 2 years ago, and he makes good decisions.
