Making the Tourney is NOT enough

Lehigh upset Duke 75-70 to become the second No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 during a wild Friday in the NCAA tournament.

I just wanted to make a point about expectations in NCAA Tourney.

And I bet Duke and Coach K felt that season was a failure.

On a side note they should have fired Coach K after that debacle. That crap shouldn't be tolerated!!!

If I'm the AD, and Tennessee barely scrapes into the tournament as a bubble team this year, that's not enough for me. Enough with the excuses, it's time to get it done and be a national contender

Good thing you're not the AD

Agreed. But some are tempering expectations too. IMO Anyone thinking a first round exit is a good goal is crazy, same for the people screaming final 4 or bust. This team does have sweet sixteen talent, baring injuri:good!:es, but not getting there shouldn't result in Martin being fired. IMO

Bottom line this team has more talent and depth than any Tenn. team I can remember. Does that mean CCM should be fired if he doesn't get to the Final4? Of course not, I don't think anybody has said that. Personally I think CCM is doing a very good job , especially with recruiting. Now, he just needs to start getting to the tourney and make some runs likeCBP did.

Completely incorrect statement. This team still has depth issues in the front court.

Thompson definitely reminds me of a poors man Michael carter-Williams being that tall and playing point.

Actually think that's what others have said also. We don't know for sure about his speed yet. But he shoots better than MCW does.

I agree that Coach Martin should be fired if he does not make the NCAA tournament this season. With the talent we have on this team there are no excuses for not making it or barely making it in on the bubble. I have watched Darius Thompson play over the past 2 years in high school and I believe he will suprise the majority of people this year. He will be a 4 year player for us and has the potential to turn into a very good efficient player, a real leader on the floor as well.

Not sure if you meant "front" court or not. Stokes, Maymon, Pops make up one of the most formidable front courts in the country. Throw in AJ Davis if needed, as he can play the 2-5. Our back court is loaded and Darius Thompson is going to be one heck of a player from what I have heard. Barton is a huge upgrade over Golden on the defensive end. I stand by my original statement that this is the most talent and depth we have had in recent history. The sky is the limit.

This year I will be very disappointed if we make the tourney and bail out in the first round.....I will be happy with a sweet sixteen trip or more.

That being said.....it looks like Zo is going to meet what I want from tenn coach......make the tourney and have a top 20 recruiting class.

When has Coach Martin brought us a top 20 class? He hasnt, the last ranked class we had was back in 2010 and it was ranked number 9. If we want to get back to where we was at under Pearl it all starts with recruiting. In the 6 years he was here he landed 3 top 10 classes. The number 6 ranked class in 2006, 7th ranked in 2008, and the 9th ranked class in 2010. Under Pearl he made our basketball program revelant again and took us places we had never been before his arrival. From his first season in 05-06 until his last in 10-11 TN went 145-61 with 6 trips out of our 19 total to the NCAA tournament. In 2008 he brought us our first outright regular season SEC championship in 41 years. That same season, although very short lived, he took us to our first number 1 ranking ever as a program. Coach Martin has my full support but so far his tenure has been less than impressive. This year we will find out if the man can truly coach a team to its full potential or not. His recruiting has been average at best and is still yet to be seen if he can land top players/classes with any consistency or not. I think we all can agree that its hard seeing the basketball program take a step back knowing where it was at and what it can be with the right coach.

This can be argued both ways. Theoretically if healthy then yes, the stokes/Maymon duo may be the best in the nation. However, if all of a sudden Maymon isn't 100%, Pops looks like Yemi, and Davis isn't ready for the physicality of the college game, you're left with little. On paper it looks good, but as far as proven depth, there's not a whole lot in our front court.
