Malzahn (not) to be named Vandy coach

Taking a rebuilding job in the toughest conference in the nation at a school with which you have no connection when you have one of the top 3 jobs in the nation waiting on you doesn't take guts; it takes stupidity.

That's a bit harsh I think.. I do agree with you that his non-connection with UT might have had a little to do with that.. and actually after the CLK debacle, I was actually a bit thankful.. I am glad that we have double D. Even though his connection does not really exist either, I think he is a vastly more honorable man than any of the aforementioned. I still think WM is gutless.

Exactly.

How the hell can you knock Muschamp for staying put at Texas or taking the Florida job? He'd have been stupid to leave Texas for Tennessee.

Further, it's not as if Malzahn's passing up better opportunities in order to do the ballsy thing and challenge himself at Vandy. It's either take the Vandy job, or hang around for the 7-5 collapse at Auburn next year.

Actually, he wasn't knocking WM.. I was. KP seems to agree with you that it would have been stupid for WM to take the UT job. I think it was gutless.. not stupid. What I think changed his mind about leaving TX was their fall off the map this year.. maybe I am wrong about that.. but with the collapse of the (formerly) Big 12... and all that.. maybe he sees little future there.. But if he is as great a recruiter as people say he is.. and if he is as great a defensive mind as people say he is... then why not accept the challenge? Any of us could recruit at FU. It just ain't that hard. I live here. the only state that has more football in it's blood is Texas...

Taking the Vandy job is nowhere near what taking the UT job would be.. There it would be all about the money.. and the next gig. I can't believe any of you are actually talking like that. I mean.. UT = Vandy... really?

Who said that?

Meh.. it was kind of a leap in logic I guess... IT just seemed to me that if people were talking Gus being brave for taking the Vandy job.. and Muschamp NOT being an idiot by taking the UT job.. that there was a correlation there... so.. nevermind, I'll go back to my coloring book.

:dance::crazy:

Does this support the fact that Auburn just throws out as many $$ as possible to keep its players and coaches????

The only good situation at Vandy is to win 7 games and get a better job. Chances are, he can do that soon after another year at Auburn and he never has to deal with the frustration at Vandy.

answer: vandy is easily the toughest place to win in the SEC. if he's actually a good coach and isn't just coasting off cam newton's success an opportunity will arise

Considering that he has had success at every school he has been to, tends to suggest, the guy sort of knows what he is doing.

JMO

Auburn gave him a huge bump and I think as he called around trying to line up a staff, he got too many not interested..

Likely, considering Vandy is the jumping off point in coaching-----into the abyss. I have never heard of another school going after a Vandy coach; or assistant.

Vandy needs a guy like Mike Leach. MOF, Vandy needs Mike Leach.

LSU hired Jerrry DiNardo from Vanderbilt in the 90s.

They need to go back to Gerry's I-bone, or the triple option, or something similar.

I always thought Widenhofer was a good coach...perhaps not a good head coach, but an excellent defensive mind.
