Is it $3 million per year? Maybe he is done with coaching and just cashing in at this point. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense career-wise for him.

Considering the schools, I think Vandy did better. Wouldn't want either.

I might give the edge to Vandy. They got the best guy for that position. Florida could have done better.

For Vanderbilt this might be hiring a Jon Gruden ...

I agree with all three of the above posts. For Vandy, this is a HUGE hire. Yes, Florida could have done better in their situation...A LOT better.

Only reason that I call it a push is that both coaches have been a head coach for exactly the same number of seasons and games...zero.

Just my opinion :hi:

For Vandy, this is a great hire. Doesn't matter if he is a good coach or not at this point.

IT is a big name hire.

I agree with this too. It is worth rolling the dice for Vandy. I think Gus was waiting for Miss St. to open and when Mullen didn't move he went with Vandy. I hope he got it in writing from Vanderbilt that they will upgrade the facilities there or it will be that much harder to turn them around. Not only the facilities for players but the game day experience sucks too. The jumbo (mini) tron sucks, the sound system sucks. They need a lot of work.

I agree with that point, but Vandy has to take chances. Florida shouldn't have too.

Did Vandy hire a better coach than Florida?

A better question to ask would involve questioning how and why Vanderbilt was offering more for a coach than UT offered in either recent coaching search. Obviously, it takes a lot to get a guy to risk his career at a school with such a losing tradition, but the offer that has been reported seems to indicate a change in attitude, no matter how small. Whether Malzahn is a bust as head coach remains to be seen, but he is a hot name right now. They certainly did better in the perception game than UT and they could very well end up with a better head coach than either UT or Florida. That wouldn't necessarily equate to wins though. It is very interesting if true.

He'll get Vandy to 7 or 8 wins in 3 or 4 years then promptly skip out for a better job (maybe UT?)

Vandy will return to mediocrity after that.

Auburn fans had better hope that he'll coach for them in the title game.

He has about 3 million reasons to take the job. Can't say that I blame him.

Oh absolutely. If the part about Muschamp being the only person that Florida spoke to about the job is true, then Foley is off his rocker.

Again, just my take :hi:

For him to be a Head Coach in the SEC at this point in his career, this would be as good as it gets. Think Norm Chow.

I was thinking more towards getting a gig at a school that has done more recently than Vandy regardless of conference.

Very good point you bring up though.

Your entire first line is WAY off.

Maybe... we don't know yet, but considering the situation at both schools, I would say Vandy made a better hire because Florida could have done better and I think this may have been the best Vandy could hope for
