Man of Steel

Maybe it's because I don't read comic books or graphic novels, but I thought Watchmen was pretty decent.

As someone that has read Watchmen at least 6 times from cover to cover I thought it was decent in that it was about 85% word for word, and in many cases panel for panel. Some of the changes worked really well including the ending.

However, as I felt like I knew what was going on because I was so familiar with the source. If I wasn't aware of certain things I could easily see the average movie goer getting lost... or simply distracted by a naked blue man.

Snyder is a crap director. 300 was novel for its style when it was new, but the Watchmen and Sucker Punch were both complete garbage.

I heard watchmen was just awful.

Hadn't read it. Thought the movie was entertaining but not anything special. Certainly not awful.

If anything, it seemed too long.

Sucker Punch was kinda of the same - I didn't think it was bad but it wasn't great either. I'd rate it a "meh +"

Watchmen was no where near awful. I could see how some wouldn't fully enjoy it but it wasnt a bad movie. The director's cut is even better that the theatrical release.

Stylishly different. As for content they have a year to tease what did you think they where going to show.

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough on imdb, but looks like there isn't a lex luther in the movie

I'm still skeptical. Looks too dark for Superman. Plus I just don't have an abundance of faith in Zach Snyder.

Why not Brandon Routh?

The Watchmen was the most boring movie I've ever seen, didn't even finish watching it. That's saying a lot because I make my way through those Syfy original movies all the time.

Does anyone know why these last Superman movies have got away from the original theme? Does it have something to do with not having permission to use it?

Superman Returns used it. But it was also written as a sequel to Superman II (while ignoring III & IV). I think this one is wanting to make a clean break.

You should read the book. I read it once every 3-4 years. The movie is a good adaptation. In many scenes are 100% from the book, word for word, panel for panel. However, IMO, it failed to capture the essence of the GN.

I'm a huge huge Superman fan (my favorite superhero growing up) but these trailers don't impress me for some reason.

This is how Superman is in the comics now.

This film is a reboot of the franchise. I have read that is why they went with the title of "Man of Steel." Superman Returns was supposed to be in line with the original Richard Donner films Superman & Superman II (on a side note the WB recently released a Blu-ray triple pack of Superman, Superman II "The Donner Cut" and Returns.)

There is rumors that Man of Steel will be the prequel/jump off point for a Justice League film. Similar to the way Iron Man was used for the Avengers franchise. There is rumors that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could make a brief cameo in MOS as Bruce Wayne or Batman depending on if they want to use his character from TDKR or they have selected Gordon-Levitt to just take over the roll of Wayne/Batman for a future Justice League franchise.

This could be done a lot like the way they did the introduction of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in Iron Man following the end credits.

That would be awesome.

I really dislike the Jim Lee New 52 designs. I don't get the little lines all over the fabric. Although I'm getting used to it, the red trunks are an iconic part of Superman's costume. It may seem silly but the look originated from the circus strong man costumes of the 1930's. It can be done right.

Nothing beats Frank Quietly's Superman...
